Tabletop Terrain: Tools & Materials PDF Kickstarter

How To Build Tabletop Terrain Tools & Materials 1

As a practical PDF, ‘Tools & Materials’ presents all of the important crafting tools and terrain building materials over 96 pages – making it an ideal source of inspiration as well as a reference work for every wargamer, tabletop fan and diorama builder, with topics such as: Which type of glue is best suited for which material? What to consider when buying craft knives, hot wire cutters and other cutting tools? Plus, what techniques and tips are helpful for applying static grass and foliage?

In addition, you’ll find a wealth of detailed information on, for example, 3D printers, abrasives, airbrushes, brushes, epoxy resin, foam board, measuring tools, paints, silicones, static grass applicators, Styrofoam, templates, texture pastes, XPS foam and much more.

As a digital guide, the ‘Tools & Materials’ PDF will always be on hand to keep you well informed and help to avoid bad purchases in DIY or hobby shops. Look for yourself and download these sample pages (choose between ENGLISCH or GERMAN version)!

How To Build Tabletop Terrain Tools & Materials 6

In late summer 2021, more than 1,600 backers contributed to the funding of my book ‘How to build tabletop terrain: Gaming Boards’ here on Kickstarter.com. Thanks to the enormous support and the considerable amount raised, I decided, during this campaign, that the extensive chapter on the most popular terrain building tools and materials deserved its own distinct book. The ‘Gaming Boards’ book originally should have taken up around 70 pages – pages which then could be used for additional crafting tutorials.

This supplementary book ‘How to build tabletop terrain: Tools & Materials’ was even expanded to 96 pages and every supporter should get it for free together with the main book ‘Gaming Boards’.

Both books are almost finished and are expected to be published in August 2023 and then sent to supporters. However: primarily owing to the conflict in Ukraine and other developments on the world market, the price of paper, as well as costs for shipping, have unfortunately, increased significantly. To be more specific: printing each ‘Gaming Boards’ book now costs around 50% more than calculated in 2021. The financial buffer which was to be used to publish the ‘Tools & Materials’ book within the acquired budget has now gone, as the production of this book will also cost 50% more than planned.

This massive increase in costs could not have been foreseen in 2021, but of course no supporter of my former campaign will have to pay money retroactively now to receive their two books soon.

Therefore, my solution for refinancing both books is this campaign for a purely digital version of the ‘Tools & Materials’ book – exclusively on Kickstarter.com! For only 10 EUR, each backer will receive the 96-page book as one high resolution PDF file in either English or German. When later available in retailers the printed book will cost 20 EUR (plus shipping costs, if applicable).

Another special feature of this Kickstarter campaign is the chance to get all the pages left out of the book ‘How to build tabletop terrain: Gaming Boards’ as one extra digital PDF for only 5 EUR. These so-called ‘Deleted Pages’ (similar to ‘Deleted Scenes’ on dvd) comprise around 20 pages which were cut or even omitted during the production process: e.g. crafting instructions for gaming mats made from painter’s fleece, a painting tutorial for MDF buildings, and a few more topics.

As soon as the books go to print, expected August 2023, all these ‘Deleted Pages’ will once again be edited and adapted as one high resolution PDF. Just like the ‘Tools & Materials’ PDF, this ‘Deleted Pages’ PDF will be available in either English or German.

At the moment, my team and I are still working at full speed to finish the ‘Gaming Boards’ book. The ‘Tools & Materials’ book is already completed, with just the final proofread to go. Of course, every line is read thoroughly, and every image is checked before printing.

Simultaneously with the shipment of the printed books, all supporters of this campaign will receive a download link for the PDF versions of the ‘Tools & Materials’ book and the ‘Deleted Pages’. This is intended to be at the end of August 2023.

      • Hi Michael,

Werde doch in krypto machen.
Dir Michael noch viel Erfolg! 🙂
