A Song of Ice and Fire: Unsullied
Daenerys Targaryen bekommt endlich ihre legendäre Armee.
Unsullied Pikemen – $ 34,99
In the slaver city of Astapor, one of the mightiest military orders is housed. They are the Unsullied. These eunuch warriors are some of the most elite fighters on either side of the narrow sea. Only one in three recruits survive the training process. However, those that make it through gain unparalleled skill in combat. Though they eschew some of the heavier armor of similar units from Westeros, their prowess with all manner of melee weapons makes them a deadly foe. In this article, we take a look at the upcoming Unsullied Pikemen unit box and just what they will bring to the table for House Targaryen commanders.
The Unsullied Pikemen cost 9 points to field. That is no small expense. So, what do Targaryen players get for that point commitment? Plenty of offensive and defensive capabilities. The unit is only Speed 4, owing to the tightly regimented nature of their signature phalanx formation, trading maneuverability for powerful defense. Though they lack heavy armor, their near immunity to pain and skilled use of shields offers them a Defense Save of 3+. The knowledge that no one else on the battlefield can truly match them in combat grants them an unshaking Morale value of 4+. It would take something truly momentous or horrific to get an Unsullied to flee the battlefield.
The unit has two Orders, both defensive in nature. The first is Set for Charge. While unengaged, the Unsullied are able to perform a free melee attack against an enemy that charges them from the front arc. Considering that the unit rolls 8 attack dice when at full, and even when down a single rank, while hitting on 3+, that is no half-hearted preemptive strike. The unit’s other Order is Shield Wall. Able to lock their shields together in perfect formation, the unit automatically blocks D3 Hits when attacked from the front.
The unit’s final special ability, Unyielding, is a general bonus that means the unit can never gain Condition Tokens. That means no opponent will be able to impose Weakened to try and blunt their offensive nature, Panicked to hope for a rare chance the Unsullied might fail a Morale test, or Vulnerable to try and crack through their armor. Considering how important many Condition tokens are for other units, with abilities keying off of them, the fact that the Unsullied Pikemen can’t gain them could halt an opponent’s game plan right in its tracks.
The Unsullied Pikemen are custom-built to be able to take and hold Objectives. Once set in place on the battlefield, it takes concentrated effort for an opponent to try and remove them from their spot. The combination of their several defensive abilities means opponents must commit resources well exceeding the Pikemen’s cost in order to uproot them.
The Unsullied Pikemen are coming to store shelves on November 20th. Talk to your FLGS and make sure that they have some on order for you when they’re available.
