Last Sword Miniatures: Hoplite Phalanx & Lords of the Lion
Diesen Monat gibt es Elfen und eine Phalanx bei Last Sword Miniatures.
May Wrap-Up: Tor Rufane High Elves, Greek Phalanx, and Rulebook
Hello everyone. We are kicking off May with a structured review of the entire deployment we’ve prepared for you on both fronts. As usual, all these files will be available in your libraries at the end of this month of May.
Bannerman Tier: Tor Rufane
With the release of the Tor Rufane Luminary, we are introducing our third or fourth archer unit into the range, a second elven griffon, a new mounted standard bearer, and multiple officers. This is no accident; it is a firm design decision.
Our goal is not to offer generic collections, but to provide a comprehensive catalog and let you customize your army lists as much as you want. That is why Tor Rufane’s heads are not the same as those of the Imperial Lineage or our generic troops. We want to give you the tools to build truly unique armies, allowing you to even create your own mixes and kitbashes with a level of variety and visual consistency that is very difficult to find anywhere else.
Tor Rufane is a border fortress designed to reconquer the outside world. If you want to deploy a Greco-Roman inspired force based on hard discipline, this faction allows you to do so tailor-made. It’s no longer about collecting „High Elves,“ but about choosing exactly how you want them to wage war.
To represent this on the tabletop, this month you will receive:
Prince on Liongryph: Your general on a monstrous mount. Pure brute force to charge straight into enemy infantry blocks and break them.
Princess on Horse: A fast command character, meant to lead your cavalry units.
Army Standard Bearer: The piece that boosts your line’s morale. Vital for keeping your troops from fleeing when combat gets tough.
Enchantress-Lion on Horse: Mobile magic. She rides with the advancing army to cast spells right at the front, rather than hiding in the backline.
Tor Rufane Archers: Ranged infantry. Their job is clear: soften up the enemy from a distance and pick off key troops before the melee begins.
Tor Rufane Guardians: Light cavalry with bows and spears. They have the perfect mobility to outflank and harass enemy units.
The Adventurer Tier: Athenian Hoplites
We are inaugurating a new historical range, and to do it with rigor, we had to start with the true skeleton of ancient armies: the hoplite formations.
We embarked on the most transversal part of the phalanx, taking the Athenian-style hoplite as our main reference, protected by a linothorax cuirass and the iconic Corinthian helmet. The design of this equipment is not coincidental; the heavy Corinthian helmet severely restricted the soldier’s peripheral vision and hearing, which completely defines their combat doctrine. The battle did not require individual initiative or skirmishing, but rather iron discipline to march forward blindly, keep the line locked, and withstand the brutality of the othismos (the collective push of shields).
To reflect this, we have structured the release into the following blocks:
Hoplite Command Group (In Combat): The Lochagos (captain) leading with a sword, accompanied by the ephebe (musician) setting the pace of the push under pressure.
Hoplite Phalanx (In Combat): Heavy infantry at the critical moment of collision, capturing the frontal clash of shields.
Hoplite Command Group (Resting): Officers awaiting orders, perfect for command vignettes or units held in reserve.
Hoplite Phalanx (Resting): Static troops ideal for use as garrisons, camp markers, or unit fillers.
Greek Temple in Ruins: Classical thematic scenery whose walls provide heavy cover and block lines of sight.
Rulebook Update: Calling the Banners
Finally, we have some news regarding our Calling the Banners rulebook. We have introduced several modifications to the rules based directly on your feedback so we can continue playtesting the game together. We don’t want to hold this document back any longer to keep the process as agile as possible, so here are the direct download links:
Thank you for your continuous support. We hope you enjoy building and painting these new profiles.
Happy hobbying, and see you on the battlefield!
