Khurasan Miniatures: Classic Fantasy Orc Preview

Khurasan Miniatures teasern auf Facebook neue Classic Fantasy Orcs an.

Khurasan Miniatures’ 15mm classic fantasy range is about to get the main nemesis force added — the Orcs. We are working on something like 60 poses of them now.

As it’s the classic fantasy vibe we are looking to achieve, we are eschewing the lantern-jawed mini-ogres of a certain iconic fantasy miniatures range, and we are also eschewing the upright orcs of the Peter Jackson films. In what we consider to be *the* template for traditional orcdom (orcosity?), the orcs are hunched over and smaller than men, relying on numbers for victory, although relatively well-armed and equipped (crude but thorough). In this first photo is a great orc chieftain compared to a human. He’s bulky but noticeably shorter than the human next to him.

There will be three flavors of orc with a possibly fourth flavor add-on later:

Super orcs: The only orcs that stand upright, almost as tall as men, perhaps even as tall, but NOT a legion of Jesse Venturas like in the movies. Armed with longbows and short broadswords (not long swords with a weird claw on the top).

Great orcs: the war orcs, bigger and tougher than normal orcs but shorter than men, also shorter than super orcs but only because they’re hunched over.

Normal orcs: hunched over and shorter still than the great orcs. Your garden variety bad guy.

We might add the miserable, vindictive little slave orcs, who would be even smaller than the normal orcs, which might correlate to goblins in the modern gamers mind, although in classic fantasy, the terms goblin and orc are synonymous.

It’s going to be quite a large range but we are hoping to have it out by the holidays. Stay tuned for updates as the Orcs mass for battle!
