Banners and Blazing Skies – Sunspear Has Arrived
Helian League reinforcements are on the horizon!
The Empyrean Order, the militarized sect of the holy House of Hiperia, dispatches its champions to reinforce the Helian League’s expeditionary forces across Calad.
The Reinforcements Pack: Sunspear strengthens the League with the presence of a Paladin and her retinue – an armoured skirmisher beastman* and a pyromancer.
*Known as Eonians in their homeland, or more colloquially as satyrs.
Let’s now shine some of Hiperia’s divine light on what the new Sunspear models bring to the battlefield.
Paladin of the Order
Paladins are devout disciples of the Empyrean Order, the militant arm of the House of Hiperia clergy. The most zealous initiates undergo rigorous martial training to become Paladins – elite soldiers capable of offering strategic counsel, instilling discipline, and leading from the front.
The Paladin serves as a new leader candidate, and thanks to her special ability, can also act as a second-in-command should the leader fall in battle.
With ARM 6 and 2 HP, Paladins are not the heaviest troops, but they stand among the most heavily armoured spellcasters in the game, capable of wielding divine healing magic. Their high Morale and access to the Mystic class allow them to reliably double down on supportive roles.
Upgrading them with Adept Shaper raises their Hieromancy to level II, unlocking additional defensive tools such as Protective Barrier, and even granting access to a ranged attack through Blinding Light.
Beyond their individual prowess, the Paladin’s presence strengthens nearby allies. Her Stratagems and the Empyrean Standard make allies highly resistant — even immune — to debuffs, protecting them from morale loss as well as Confused and Weakened states. This is especially valuable, as fallen troops can recover without suffering lingering penalties.
Combined with their martial capability and the Soldier class, which provides passive stat increases for each allied soldier, the Paladin stand as one of the most versatile and self-sufficient units in the game – equally effective in groups and independently.
Flameshaper
Flameshapers are often an overlooked strength of the Helian League, thanks to their modest profile and low point cost. In reality, they embody the League’s core strength: battlefield synergy.
Their low cost makes them easy to include in most rosters. While their base stats are unassuming, their abilities make them far more dangerous than they appear.
As members of the Soldier class, they benefit from — and contribute to — stat boosts within soldier-heavy parties. Their affordability makes them an efficient way to enhance the effectiveness of other units.
Their spell repertoire is modest, but fire sorcery offers significant offensive potential. With spells like Flare and Ignite, they can defend themselves both at range and somewhat in close quarters when pressured by melee opponents.
However, their greatest strength lies in the combination of Chain Attack and the Sorcerer class. This allows them to generate additional attacks, enhanced by rerolls, turning them into consistent and reliable sources of damage over time.
Eonian Runner
Beyond the walled Helrin cities live many allied tribes, often serving as irregular forces, filling gaps where the Helian Expeditionary Force is weakest. Among them are the Eonians — a chimeric people bearing the features of stags and other horned, hoofed beasts.
Eonian Runners are nimble skirmishers who support League’s colonies across Calad — and sometimes even lend their skills to other factions.
True to the theme of this Reinforcements Pack, they are highly versatile fighters, equipped for both ranged and melee combat.
Despite wearing older pattern Helrin harness, they are agile and well-protected, boasting 2 HP and a light shield that enhances their survivability both in melee and at range.
Their mobility makes them exceptional harriers. With access to ranged attacks via javelins, they can disrupt enemy advances and create openings in formations. When the time is right, they can close the distance quickly and engage with their shortswords.
Their Hit and Retreat ability allows them to strike and reposition effectively, while their Leap skill and Ranger class enables additional movement, letting them bypass terrain and close the gap “for free” at the end of their turn.
Reliable and flexible, Eonian Runners excel both as part of a closed formation and as independent flankers.
Strength in Unity, Leading to Greatness
The Helian League stands as a paragon of discipline and military tradition, boasting one of the most professional and enduring standing forces in Calad.
Where previous army compositions often relied on tightly interdependent units, Sunspear introduces models that remain highly effective in groups, but can also operate independently when needed.
This makes Helian forces more mobile, more aggressive, and better equipped to seize objectives and bring the fight directly to the enemy.
