June Release Preview

As always, a huge Thank You to our subscribers, who keep us inspired to bring you fresh collections every month! Maybe something was in the air, because I feel like we saw more cobra-paints in May, especially of our Big Boss Toad, Ganmaru. I hope you’ll share more of your projects with us on social media and in our Discord channel. It’s truly amazing to see the work come to life. Even if you think your painting skills are humble, we still love to see it, and it makes Erin’s long hours sculpting feel worth it.

Patrons can connect their discord account here, and the bot will drop you into our paid channels: https://www.patreon.com/settings/apps

I can’t believe it’s already June! Maybe the arrival of summer inspired this garden of delights this month, with the return of our Plant Form Nature Spirits, and the Guanghan who battle against them at the edges of the Empire. A new crop of veggie monsters have appeared, but luckily the garden guard are here to protect the farmers from their wrath.

We have fantastic garden and farm themed bases and terrain this month, sculpted by Calrais and concepted by Paul Ferret. The Throwbacks this month include some Mazigh Trackers and their pets that match nicely with the Stonebinders from May (lovingly referred to as the Himbos), a pack of vicious Sommos Pyraja, and the beautiful mushroom bases and terrain pack from August 2022.

Conflux Creatures is still banging away on April and May stats, but you can find the previous collections in this directory. The lore on CobraMode.com is slowly coming along, as I build out the pages starting from the most recent collections. I know I wrote all of it, but the web of lore is actually more complex than I anticipated 😅 There’s a lot, and I’m adding to it, editing it, and reorganizing it as I build out the pages. My hope is that after going through all of it like this, I’ll have a better idea of how I might want to structure a physical setting book in the future. I’ve started building out character pages too, and hope that there can be a whole searchable index some day. For now, the few faction pages that exist (Ahurazad, Stonebinders, Mikata, and Dinovians) are showing the collections and characters from those factions, and links to MMF where you can grab them.

The full lore can still be found on the CobraCompendium: https://bit.ly/3om6snO

This month’s lore:

Bronze Fang, Guanghan Patrolman

Bronze Fang is a part of the Garden Guard, Guanghan national forces who keep the peace on the borders of the Nature Spirits’ lands. Although all-out battles are rare since the Elemental Dragons intervention, the Nature Spirits do occasionally get upset and attack the outlying villages that encroach on their territory. Bronze Fang’s job is split between protecting the villagers, and convincing them to respect the Nature Spirits boundaries. His friendly and boisterous character certainly helps, but even so, he doesn’t always succeed.

Thunder Bristle, Battle Boar

A doughty mount, Thunder Bristle is much faster and more agile than she looks. A seasoned veteran who has seen a number of skirmishes, she’s not afraid to dive into battle and start chomping at her enemies.

Iron Brow, Guanghan Patrolman

Despite being nicknamed Iron Brow, he’s one of the most easygoing members of the Garden Guard. Calm even in the face of chaotic situations, he’s a steady and reliable hand with a dry sense of humor. His weapon of choice is testament to his sly wit; a large vegetable chopper on the end of a polearm. Though he’s not nearly as severe as his name might suggest, he’s still a highly trained and trusted patrolman.

Cinder Veil, Giant Fox

Sleek and swift, Cinder Veil is built more for speed than brute force. Though she doesn’t balk at entering the fray, her strengths lean more towards scouting, precision strikes, flanking, and rapid exchanges, rather than prolonged combat.

Plantform Nature Spirits

The Qiang Shen Shang is known for being the home of many mysterious beasts and creatures. Many of them are Nature Spirits taking various forms; in this case, plant forms. The Guanghan Rabbitfolk have a fraught history with the Nature Spirits of their homeland, and although the Elemental Dragons ultimately punished the Guanghan for their arrogance and disregard, not all the Nature Spirits have forgiven the Rabbitfolk. Occasionally disputes will still arise, especially when the lands of the Nature Spirits are disturbed. At these times, the Spirits will manifest and attack the offending Guanghan and their villages. During peaceful times, the Spirits can be observed wandering the Thousand Sacred Mountains and caring for the land and its creatures.

Potato Nature Spirit

The potato nature spirit prefers cool, temperate days, and moderate moisture. They abhor getting their feet wet, but also dislike overly hot and dry weather. During high summer, they spend the hottest hours of the day burrowed in moist soil.

Fennel Nature Spirit

Thrives in cool and moist conditions, although they can become drought tolerant once fully grown. Can be found basking on riverbanks and the edges of other bodies of water.

Leek Nature Spirit

The Leek Nature Spirit prefers to rest with the white part of its stem fully buried. They become extremely ornery when this part is exposed to light.

Lettuce Nature Spirit

Their delicate, leafy tops cannot tolerate extreme heat and will wilt visibly. They seek shade during the hottest hours of the day, but can be seen frolicking during rainstorms.

Root Dragon Nature Spirit

Not to be confused with a true dragon, the Root Dragon is so called because of its long shape. Although it lacks the impressive magical abilities of the elemental dragons, it remains a large and strong creature that can wreak havoc on farms and structures. Root Dragons can travel underground through their complex tunnel systems, keeping their moist skin away from the harsh sun. They tend to emerge between the hours of dusk and dawn, but will brave sunlight if provoked. Root dragons have a moderately tough skin depending on age, but their true power lies in the ability to regrow any part that is cut off – and for any part that is cut off to become a new Root Dragon.
