Cathedrals of Steel

Foldable 3D Printable Terrain for Tabletop Wargames. ink. 3D Printable Box. Fold it. Store it. Deploy it.

Cathedrals Of Steel 1

Tabletop terrain should be exciting on the table – not a storage nightmare off the table.

As a passionate tabletop player, I love dramatic, story-driven battlefields.
But every new terrain piece meant more storage problems, more bulky boxes, more clutter.

And most foldable systems?
Practical – yes.
But visually flat and uninspiring.

So I asked myself:

Why can’t terrain be both practical and epic?

Cathedrals of Steel was created to solve two major problems:

  • Bulky terrain that takes up too much space
  • Boring terrain that looks flat and uninspiring

This project introduces a foldable terrain system that stores flat, sets up fast, and still delivers a dramatic, immersive battlefield experience.

What’s Included in the Core Set

With the core set of this campaign, you will receive:

8 highly detailed, modular terrain buildings:

• 4× foldable multi-story buildings
(First-floor modules + second-floor modules)
• 4× foldable two-story buildings

In addition, the set includes:

• Containers (4 fit inside the storage box)
• Small stone wall obstacles
A fully printable modular storage crate

All terrain pieces fold flat and fit neatly inside the crate – making transport and storage simple and efficient.

This is a digital STL campaign. No physical items will be produced or shipped.
All files will be delivered digitally via MyMiniFactory’s Pledge Manager.
Further information about delivery and distribution is provided at the end of this page.

MEASUREMENTS

The core set terrain dimensions were designed with the WTC terrain guidelines as a reference.
Cathedrals of Steel is not affiliated with or officially endorsed by WTC.

Cathedrals Of Steel 14

Each three-story building consists of two modular sections: a first floor and a second floor, allowing for easy assembly and flexible gameplay.
When fully assembled, the building measures :

length: 9″ (22,86 cm) width: 5″ (12,7 cm) height: 9.5″ (24,13 cm) .

Cathedrals Of Steel 15

Each Two-story building measures:

Length: 9″ in(22,86 cm) Width: 5″ in(12,7 cm) Height: 5″ in(12,7 cm).

Cathedrals Of Steel16

Container measures:

Length: 5″ in(12,7 cm) Width: 2.5″ in(6,35 cm) Height: 2.5″ in(6,35 cm).

Cathedrals Of Steel 17

Depending on the number of stretch goals unlocked, the size of the storage box may be adjusted to accommodate additional terrain pieces.

Storage Box outside measures:

Length: 20″ in(50,8 cm) Width: 13.75″ in(35 cm) Height: 8″ in(20 cm).

3D PRINTING DETAILS

This project is specifically designed for FDM printing.

All test prints were completed without support structures on a Bambu Lab A1 and P1S.
Every part fits within a 200 × 200 mm build volume, making it compatible with most standard desktop FDM printers.

Material: PLA
Settings used: Layer height 0.12 mm / Infill 15% / 3 wall lines

These settings provided a good balance between detail, stability, and print time.

The complete core set required approximately 2.5–3 kg of filament, depending on infill and print preferences. I’m pretty sure the 3D printing veterans out there will squeeze even more efficiency out of their printers.

Cathedrals Of Steel 18

Material: PLA for the main box / PETG for the connectors
Settings used: Layer height 0.28 mm

The modular design allows the box to be printed on standard 200 × 200 mm printers and assembled afterwards without complicated post-processing.

The bottom and the lid each consist of 6 separate panels.

For assembly, the following connectors are used:

14 internal connectors / 4 side connectors / 8 front/back connectors

I used super glue to secure the connectors for extra strength.
They might hold without glue as well, but I haven’t tested that yet.

Additionally, 2 latches are included to securely close the box.

Hässliche Winkel bleiben hässliche Winkel egal was man draussen dran packt

Absolut gruselig.

    just my two cent …
