Carnevale: Eater of Sin & Patient 42 are Unleashed

The Vatican and Doctors have a long-standing disdain for each other; this hatred runs deep and is likely linked to their chosen paths. Whilst the Vatican chooses to linger in the past, using century-old weaponry and tactics, the Doctors drive to invent and abuse vicious new technological advancements to place themselves above their fellow man.

From the depths of the Vatican and the screaming halls of the Ospedale come forth two new Carnevale miniatures game characters, ready to help their gangs achieve the ultimate goal: capturing and holding Venice. Whilst the Vatican may play the role of pious saviors seeking to save the average citizen from damnation, their acts of brutality and ritual sacrifice lead many to believe that God’s chosen are heading down a darker path. This belief is reinforced by the newly revealed Eater of Sin, a mysterious figure with torturous powers.

The Eater of Sin is a Vatican priest who offers salvation through destruction. He devours sinners’ souls, keeping only the most damaged fragments stitched into the living necklace at his throat, while the rest are ground into holy ash and erased from existence. Empowered by the souls he consumes, he is surrounded by a spectral haze that attacks nearby foes or can be condensed into devastating blasts at the cost of his strength. He wanders constantly, harvesting new souls and leaving charred husks behind. In places heavy with sin, he can burn all his collected souls in a purifying inferno, using sinners to punish sinners. His mask, shaped after the screaming faces of the damned, gives him the aspect of the Grim Reaper.

Working as a unique faction hero for the Vatican, the Eater of Sin is a beyond-brave individual who enjoys nothing more than forcing a confession from his victim’s lips. Through his ability, „He Searches Your Soul Alone,“ this figure can stop enemies in line of sight from using the MIND values of other characters. As a priest, the only weapon the Eater of Sin carries is his voice; he can produce „Compelled Confessions,“ an ability that applies Stun to unfortunate enemies caught in his path.

Despite the introduction of this vicious figure, they are not the only new arrival to the canals.

If the apparent supporters of the Ospedale ever try to argue that the Doctors have the best interests of the citizens of Venice at heart, mention Patient 42 to them. Before being forcibly enthralled, Patient 42 was a notorious serial killer, infamous for savagely biting out his victims’ throats. Captured on San Servolo near the Ospedale, he became the subject of horrific experiments. His arms were replaced with steel claws, and a madness-energy pack was grafted to his back, feeding tubes into his brain and muscles for control. When activated, his body swells with unnatural strength, insensate to mortal pain. Now weaponized by the Ospedale, Patient 42 is kept in a cage, bound in a straitjacket and muzzle, his eyes burning with berserk fury. When unleashed, he tears through targets with feral brutality. Afterward, attendants inject madness energy to stun him, restrain him again, and wheel him back to the asylum, ready for the next act of barbarism.

A menace on the battlefield, this unique hero and his bladed limbs cause havoc where he is deployed. With Character Abilities like, Berserk, Engage, Mindless and Primitive, players of Carnevale will know what kind of menace this figure can be. Possibly his biggest strength is his “Madness Infused Muscle“ special ability. If this character rolls no Aces for its Primitive rolls, instead of receiving a Stunned counter, it makes a Run/Climb action towards the nearest other character (friendly or enemy) and then makes a Combat action against it. This character then replenishes 1 Will Point and activates as normal (with full AP). With this ability affecting friend along with foe, we’d recommend keeping your other gang members well away from Patient 42.
