More Carolingians! Unarmoured Infantry & Cavalry
We already showed you renders of the Carolingian armoured infantry, but we’ve been busy sculpting more figures for this range.
The unarmoured infantry mostly operated as spearmen but with an assortment of secondary weapons including, swords, axes and clubs and are carrying the distinctive Carolingian dished shield with studs and embossed details.
The unarmoured warriors represents the less well-off soldiers in the army and so there are less helmet heads and more bare heads and heads in caps. There are a few helmets and you can always use helmeted heads from the armoured infantry frame if you want more variety.
We have gone for some dynamic attacking poses in this set and the cloaks give a great sense of motion to the miniatures.
Notice we have sculpted quite a lot of cloaks with the figures. If you look at Carolingian manuscripts you see the troops often portrayed wearing cloaks. Quite distinctive to these sculpts are the borders and panelled patch areas on the tunics, and the tall boots with Tulip shaped tops on some of the figures. These details are portrayed frequently in Carolingian art and we feel add a real flavour to these miniatures which set them apart from our other Dark Age sets.
As well as finishing the infantry we are pleased to show you the Carolingian cavalry we have been working on and many of you have asked for. This will be a combined set of armoured and unarmoured cavalry.
We’ve included crests as optional parts for some helmets, so you can decide if you think the portrayal in Carolingian manuscripts of helmets with crests are factual. We are only part way through sculpting the cavalry so we will share more renders once we have finished!
These have been a much neglected nation in wargaming but not for too much longer. We will have everything you need for your Carolingian forces and make Charlamagne proud!
