Mantic Digital and 4th Edition!
Hi Cleric here with a little update for our Digital fans.
This month really is a brilliant month for Mantic fans – not only is it the time of year we all get exactly what we asked for (socks, right?) we also get to unwrap the new edition of our favourite game – Kings of War!
If like me, you’ve been eagerly waiting and planning your armies and have been impatiently tapping refresh on the Companion site, well fear not – the wait is nearly over! On Wednesday 17th December, the beta version of the Kings of War 4th Edition rules will be released on the Companion – slotting into the already packed lineup of games that includes Epic Warpath, Deadzone, Armada, Firefight, and for a while yet, Kings of War 3rd Edition! Digital rules and army list builders for an amazing selection of Mantic games, all in one place.
If you’re a paid subscriber, as we have been saying all along, you’d never have to buy a Mantic rulebook again – and we are backing up that promise – on Wednesday you will be able to see the full new ruleset, create all the army lists you can think of, so you can dive right into 4th Edition. If you want the convenience of the PDF versions of the Kings of War rulebook and Invasion expansion books, they will be hitting the webstore tomorrow …and of course there is always the traditional method – the printed version are shipping to pre-orders now, and should be in stores from this weekend onwards.
At some point in 2026 3rd Edition will become part of the paid subscription, but we’re are going to leave it up for a while, so you can complete out any events and tournaments you had planned in the next few months, or indeed save any army lists you particularly loved!
Salamanders are here!
We have been threatening a full digital STL army for Kings of War all year – and the good news is if you are a home-printer you can get an all-digital Salamander army ready for a 4th edition game this week too! On Wednesday, via the Vault site we will have a huge All-In bundle (including all the pdf version of the rules) and all the models for the launch of Salamanders.
This release will cover off (almost) every unit in the army list, including a few we’ve never been able to sculpt or release yet – like Kaisenor Lancers and Ghekkotah Infantry! If you do not have access to a printer, but want a Salamanders army, then look at the new Print on Demand option – going live 16th January. This will allow you to access the full Salamander range on pre-order, and Mantic will then print and prepare it in early 2026, and ship it to you.
Then, later in the week we will also launch the army and indeed Kings of War as a game system, on MyMiniFactory – giving more new players an entry point into the world of Pannithor, and enabling them to play Kings of War with an army that is both 100%. If you have a friend who is into 3D printing but hasn’t yet given Kings of War a try, be sure to let them know about the Salamanders army release!
Lastly, over the past 2-3 years we’ve continued to improve the Companion website and added Epic Warpath, Deadzone, Firefight and Armada as we released them – but the price of the subscription had not changed. This is an early heads-up that, in February next year, Companion prices will be increasing slightly. Furthermore, some of the tiers we offer will be adjusted and simplified – our goal is to continue to offer exceptional value for money while also making it easier than ever to dive into any an all our games and the STL service. Ja, und das werde ich auch niemals wieder tun. Im RB sind nur Rumpf Listen enthalten (so etwas wie „Kriegerische Horden“) und es ist mangelhaft aufgebaut. Es fehlen sowohl ein Inhaltsverzeichnis, als auch ein Stichwortregister. Wie kann man allen Ernstes so etwas raus geben? Ich bin ein Spieler der das analoge am TT Hobby schätzt und elektronische Spielereien bestenfalls als nettes Add on versteht.
Naja, wahrscheinlich wollen die Ihren Companion pushen und Abos verkaufen.
Eigentlich hatte ich mich auf das neue RB gefreut…
Der Companion ist ala Quelle für Regeln mMn so ungeeignet.
Es ist nicbts auf ihn formatiert und dee Text nicht auf ihn angepasst. Wie oft auf eine gegenüberliegende Seite verwiesen wird…
KoW ist im Beta-Zustand. Es gibt einfach viel zu viele Fehler die ein Endprodukt nicht haben darf.
Und die Listen? Tja, ein paar Armeen wurden echt in den Hintern getreten, nicht nur welche mit Fremdmodellen.
Abyssals sind einfach sehr langweilig und schwach im Core, Twilight Kin können ihre halbe Armee nicht mehr spielen, weil auf einmal alle Einheiten die man früher problemlos spielen konnte, Special oder Support sind.
Und Core? 2 langweilige Einheiten, eine völlig überteuerte und eine „geheime“ weil im Buch vergessene Einheit, die aber nur noch ein Schatten ihrer selbst ist.
Ich nutze ausschließlich den Companion und komme super mit ihm klar – auf dem Smartphone wie auf dem Notebook gleichermaßen. Verweise auf andere Seiten sind aus meiner Sicht kein Problem, weil diese im Inhaltsverzeichnis mit angegeben sind. Via Link kann ich direkt hin navigieren.
Mir gefallen die Grundregeln weiterhin außerordentlich gut. Die Anpassungen in den Regeln fühlen sich sinnvoll an und ich freue mich sehr auf die ersten Spiele.
Gedruckte Bücher finde ich zwar persönlich auch besser, aber digitale Regelwerke bieten Mehrwert und Flexibilität. Die Vorteile sind einfach nicht von der Hand zu weisen (genauso wie persönliche Vorlieben).
In meiner Berliner Bubble wird der Wechsel wohlwollend aufgenommen. Es laufen 10 mm Armeeaufbauprojekte, bereits nächste Woche findet der erste Game Day statt, Anfang Januar vermutlich der Nächste.
Die Regeln sind immer noch gut.
Eher Ärger verursachen hier die halb fertigen Armeelisten mit ihren teils sinnlosen, nicht nach zu vollziehenden Änderungen und Streichungen und das als eher schlampig zusammen gestellte Buch.
Die Nachteile der digitalen Version sind auch nicht von der Hand zu weisen.
Abhängigkeit von Netzverbindungen und der Zuarbeit bei den Aktualisierungen. Das Ganze wird dadurch viel hektischer und unüberlegter. Änderungen werden nicht mehr sorgfältig überlegt, sondern hastig raus gehauen.

ich kann mich nicht daran erinnern, dass nach Einführung des Companion ständig Regeln angepasst und dir Anpassung zurückgenommen hat, einfach nur, weilan es digital kann. Die von dir genannten Nachteile sind aus meiner Sicht bei KOW (!) eher theoretischer Natur. Das Thema Netzverbindung kann natürlich durchaus mal sein.
Es ist fair zu erwähnen, dass Armeen mit dem Release der Kampagnenbücher ausgebaut werden und sich die Armeeliste anreichert. Dad wurde von Mantic im Vorfeld auch kommuniziert. Das kann ma vom Vorgehen weiterhin ablehnen, das ist fein.
Ich sehe ein sehr gutes Spiel mit der Aussicht, dass es Flufftechnisch und von den Listen entwickelt wird. Ich finde das sind gute Aussichten. Wer bereits viele Minis hat wird in der Regel kaum bis gar nicht dazu gezwungen so neue Minis zu kaufen.
