WarCradle haben die neuen Modelle für Dystopian Wars vorgestellt.
Dystopian Wars
May introduces a fan favourite to Dystopian Wars, the Vauban Battlefleet Set, and allows players to put the pyre in ‘Empire’ with the new Empire Support Squadrons.
Vauban Battlefleet Set
The Vauban is the largest and the oldest of the early generation levant vessels still in service to the Republique. Photojournalists at the time of her launch etched the Vauban into the imagination of the French people. An indelible image is left of an engineering marvel hanging majestically low in the sky, sending waves of her heroic fighters and bombers to victory.
It is said that in the weeks following the public showing of the first Vauban Sky Fortress, French military recruitment centres reported a 22% increase in enlistment. Requests for an assignment within the Service Aeronautique were so prevalent that public relations officers had to be brought in to steer the public into more needed positions.
Young recruits were persuaded into infantry roles with the promise that it might lead to an assault position on a Levant cruiser, with promotion to a Vauban on the horizon. These things, while certainly possible, were in reality quite unlikely.
Many a lucky pilot would rise to the fortunate position of crewing a Frelon Bomber. These incredible aircraft seemed impossibly large when standing next to one, so much so that the wings were designed to fold in order to fit them aboard carriers; even the mighty Vauban could only carry limited squadrons. The significant payload of the Frelon bomber allowed them to cause serious damage to enemy fortifications as well as the largest capital ships and armoured divisions.
Now, the Vauban has the reputation of having the best of the best crews among the Service Aeronautique. While a small percentage of those original recruits have found their way to their dream positions, those that have got there have done so with hard work, dedication, and a not-insignificant amount of luck. This luck has rubbed off on the Vauban class, with each one having a story of defeating seemingly insurmountable odds. At least, that’s what the publicists say.

Empire Support Squadrons
Despite orders to the contrary, Captain Vanya Sokolov gave the command to push forward to attack the flank of the Diyu class vessel ahead. After months patrolling the Sea of Okhotsk, finally there was action and an enemy to fight. If he achieved the first kill, it would only be a matter of time before a promotion was due. Surely the cursed Commodore Belyaev only wanted him to hold back so that he could get the honour of first blood.
Captain Sokolov couldn’t help but admire the craftsmanship of the Diyu as he closed the distance. The jade green tiles that covered the roofs, the ornamental dragonheads cast onto the muzzles of guns and the rich golden lacquer made the Empire ships look like works of art, glinting in the sun. Sokolov vowed to take one as a prize and gave orders to flank the squadron of Diyu and prepare the marines for boarding.
As the Kutsov under his command broke formation he could almost hear the cheers he’d receive once this battle was over. Soon, the reverie was blown away as the Empire ships began to turn on the spot, a manoeuvre impossible for the Commonwealth ships.
It was then that Captain Sokolov realised that his pride had come before his fall and he slipped back into his chair with resignation. His last thought was a prayer of forgiveness before he and the scores of men under his command were engulfed in alchemical flame.

Komisch, auch wenn die Designs quasi die gleichen wie bei den Wasser-Schiffen sind, gefällt mir die fliegende Variante viel besser. Ach Leviathans, wo bleibst du…
Auf die Vauban wurde von den Alliance Spielern lange gewartet – und das Modell sieht klasse aus, und das, obwohl es ja aus 4 der vorderen Träger-Hüllen des Marseille Carriers und einem zentralen Resin Teil zusammengesetzt ist. Das Ding gefällt mir richtig gut. Auch die neuen Masse 2 Skimmer der Franzosen sind ganz gut, nur die sehr weit hinten liegende Brücke finde ich etwas unglücklich. Aber in der Lore soll das ja die erste Generation der französischen Schweber sein, da passt das etwas krude Design schon.
In Bezug auf die Regeln gab es übrigens eine ziemliche Diskussion im offiziellen Discord zu der Vauban Festung. Eigentlich haben alle erwartet, dass das Ding wie die übrigen Schweber regeltechnisch ein „Skimmer“ wird und damit das Prunkstück in der Lavant-Schwebeflotten Armeeliste wird. Jetzt wurden letzte Woche aber die Beta Regeln veröffentlicht – und da ist die Vauban regeltechnisch eine vollwertige „Aerial“-Einheit, d.h., sie ist ein vollwertiger Flieger. Damit kann sie aber keine Lavant-Flotte mehr anführen, was auch in Bezug auf die Zusammenstellung der Box merkwürdig ist. Außerdem haben die Franzosen bisher sonst keine Flugeinheit gehabt. Auf das Feedback reagierte der Chafddesigner von Warcradle ziemlich ungehalten und meine nur lapidar, dass das immer schon so geplent gewesen sei. Nun ja.
Als Ausgleich wird es immerhin eine einzigartige, namenhafte Variante der Vauban mit mehr Waffen geben, die dann regeltechnisch doch ein Schweber ist und explizit in der Levant Armeeliste steht.
Nun ja, das neue ORBAT ist noch nicht released, wir dürfen daher gespannt sein, ob sich da in letzter Minute noch was geändert hat.
Sollte nicht eigentlich auch mal dystopian legions wiederkommen?
Dystopian Legions nicht, das war ja der 28 mm Ableger. Aber im Sommer kommt sehr wahrscheinlich Armored Clash zurück, das ja das Bodenkampfspiel im Dystopin Wars Universum im kleinen Maßstab von ca. 10 mm sein wird. Auf einer Convention waren kürzlich sogar schon die Bodenflaggschiffe von Briten und Empire zu sehen, da der narrative Aufhänger des Systems die Zerstörung Singapurs durch das asiatische Empire sein soll.
Ich hätte mir hier ja eher den Erzkrieg, also die Variante des amerikanischen Bürgerkriegs im Dystopian Wars Setting gewünscht. Aber ehrlicherweise hätten wir dann nur Union vs. Union (plus ein wenig Enlightened) gehabt.
