Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game Warhammer Preview Online – Battle for Osgiliath
Osgiliath, the first capital of Gondor, is now a shattered husk spanning both sides of the Anduin river. A detachment of Sauron’s forces now controls this sprawling ruin – this desolation is the setting of the fantastic new Battle for Osgiliath boxed game for the Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game.
That’s a huge dollop of Middle-earth goodness. Let’s break down what you can find inside this massive new set.
Replacing the Pelennor Fields set after four years of loyal service, this massive and magnificent new box pits Faramir and the forces of Gondor against Gothmog and the despicable hordes of Mordor, and contains everything you need to get started with the Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game.
You get 27 miniatures on the side of Good, including stunning new sculpts for three mighty Heroes of Gondor – Faramir, Madril, and Damrod, now in glorious plastic for the first time.
But those mighty heroes can’t protect Osgiliath alone, you also get 12 Warriors of Minas Tirith, and 12 Rangers of Gondor, ready to lay down their lives in the defence of Osgiliath.
Spearheading the assault on the city for the forces of Evil is the brutal Gothmog, Lieutenant of Sauron. He can ride to battle on a fearsome mount or fight on foot, thanks to two all-new jaw-dropping miniatures – again in plastic for the very first time.
This cunning Orc commands 24 Morannon Orcs and a ferocious Mordor Troll, ready to capture the ruins from Faramir and his fellows in the name of Mordor and the Dark Lord.
These two forces join battle amongst the ruins of Osgiliath, and the city itself is represented by an all-new set of magnificently modular Gondor terrain. This iconic new scenery set has been designed to be easily expandable, and it will make your tabletop battles look like they’re straight out of the films.
You’ll also get an updated 224-page Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game rules manual, collecting all the information you need to play straight out of the box, alongside a scenario booklet, dice, and a range ruler.
More news about this excellent new boxed set will be coming soon, while plenty more Middle-earth goodness will be announced today.

Join the ranks of the fallen Istari Saruman – while he may have sided with Evil, he’s still one of the most powerful Wizards in Middle-earth, and he personally leads this Battlehost featuring 48 miniatures. As always, Gríma Wormtongue isn’t far behind his master, but they let the Uruk-hai Scouts and Uruk-hai Warriors do all of the actual fighting.
Minas Tirith Battlehost
If you like White Wizards but prefer to fight for the forces of Good, you can follow Gandalf the White into battle. He’s accompanied by Peregrin Took, and they lead the charge of Warriors of Minas Tirith and Knights of Minas Tirith as part of the 33 miniatures that make up this Battlehost.

Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game: Warhammer Preview Online – Mighty Elven Heroes arrive.
Arguably the greatest warrior of Rivendell, Glorfindel’s skill and swiftness with a blade is unmatched by any Elf in the Third Age, including Lord Elrond. Even the dreaded Nazgûl recoil from this mighty swordsman – they dare not face him openly, opting only to challenge him when all nine are united as one under the command of the Witch-king.
In short, he’s a legendary warrior, and he’s coming to the Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game later this year in a new resin kit from Forge World. The set contains two versions of Glorfindel, Lord of the West – one on foot, preparing to duel, and the other rearing up on his Elven steed Asfaloth.
On the tabletop, Glorfindel is a monster in melee. Thanks to the Armour of Gondolin, Glorfindel cannot be targeted by a Monster’s Brutal Power attack, while with a Fight Value of 7 and 3 Attacks, even the mightiest of Middle-earth’s champions will have a difficult time taking him down. Asfaloth, meanwhile, is so quick that he has a 12” movement alongside the Fleetfoot special rule – nowhere on the battlefield is safe from this avenging Elf.
Also coming from Forge World are Rúmil and Orophin, two brothers of Haldir who step forward to defend Lothlórien from the predations of the Dark Lord. Both exquisitely skilled with the sword, Rúmil fights defensively behind his shield, while Orophin takes the attack to the forces of Evil with a whirlwind of twin-blade blows.
Rúmil and Orophin are joined on the tabletop by the Guards of the Galadhrim Court, a set of three resin models from Forge World, each armed with a pike and with the option to create one as a standard bearer. Each guard has a noble lineage that can be traced back to the earliest days of Middle-earth. Highly trained warriors, their fighting style is as varied as the leaves on the Mallorn, their pikes wielded in a fighting stance that allows for both a deadly attack and nigh-on impenetrable defence.
Glorfindel, the Guards of the Galadhrim Court, Rúmil, and Orophin will arrive in the Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game later this year, joining many other heroes and villains in the eternal battle against Good and Evil.
Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game: Warhammer Preview Online – Elrond, Master of Rivendell
Blessed with the gift of foresight, Elrond is able to provide wisdom and guidance to his allies – and he’s now available in plastic for the first time. This latest kit contains three models – Elrond mounted, Elrond on foot, and a High Elf Warrior carrying a banner. Elrond is depicted as he was during the War of the Last Alliance, at the close of the Second Age, when he was sometimes referred to as the Herald of Gil-galad, the last High Elf king of Noldor.
As a renowned warrior, Elrond has 3 Attacks at Fight Value 6, making him incredibly difficult to beat in a duel. What’s more, His trusty banner bearer can be used to reroll a dice for determining the results of a duel both for Elrond and nearby allies.
The banner-bearer who accompanies Elrond into battle is carrying a standard that bears Gil-galad’s heraldry. An impressive combatant in his own right, he’s wearing ornate heavy armour and wielding an Elven hand-a-half sword. Eagle eyed fans of the movies can see this regal standard in a flashback scene in Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.
