A Song of Ice and Fire: Baratheon Helden

Die Baratheon Fraktion bekommt Unterstützung in Form von zwei Helden Boxen.

United We Stan For Stannis

With the death of Robert Baratheon, his brothers have both decided that they should be the next person to be seated upon the Iron Throne. They’ve each built an army, tearing the House in two, demanding that people swear loyalty to either Stannis or Renly. While any other House might never stand a chance if their resources were split in twain, House Baratheon has enough power that either Baratheon brother might still manage to take the Iron Throne by force. In this article, we’re taking a look at those that have sworn to help out the older Baratheon, Stannis. Let’s take a look at what resources he’ll be getting in the Baratheon Heroes #1 box set.

Like with the other Heroes sets, the Baratheon Heroes #1 box set comes with a wealth of new characters that players can use to customize their army to their specific play style. It contains Unit Attachments and NCUs aplenty. The unique thing about House Baratheon is the loyalty system. When building an army, a House Baratheon player must decide if their army is loyal to one brother or the other. While generic units can work for either, the characters in the army are dedicated to working for only one. As such, nobody who is loyal to Renly can be used in an army that’s pledged to Stannis. This can cause difficult choices for a Baratheon player as they might like characters who are loyal to different brothers. But with such choice can come creativity in army-construction.

For Unit Attachments, of course this set has Stannis himself. He’s one of the three new Commander options that comes in the box. He causes the unit in which he’s attached to become a R’hllor unit. This keyword comes into play with his Tactics cards. His unit also gains Fearless, never having to worry about becoming Panicked or taking hits to their Morale. Other attachments include both Devan and Davos Seaworth, with Davos also having a Commander version (he’s a rather versatile character in this box, as we’ll see). Devan Seaworth is adept at making sure the units he’s attached to are able to get into combat easily. Whenever they declare a Charge, the unit takes 1d3 Wounds, but automatically counts as having rolled a 6 on their Charge Distance die. Having such assurance that a unit will make it to their target is invaluable and certainly worth possibly losing a few troops along the way. Also, when attached to a unit with Loyalty, Devan’s presence means that they always count as having at least 2 ranks when rolling Attack dice. As for Davos, he has many incarnations. His Commander version gives the unit he’s attached to Pathfinder, which grants them +1 Speed and lets them ignore many negative terrain effects.

Moving to some of the NCUs in the set, we once more find a version of Davos Seaworth. In this version, he is given two Order tokens at the start of the game. Whenever a friendly unit rolls their Charge Distance dice, Davos’ player can remove one to reroll the dice. While not the guaranteed distance of the Attachment version of Devan, this doesn’t require the unit to suffer any Wounds and still makes sure that the unit is better-equipped to get to their target. Another NCU in the set is Melisandre. Whenever she activates, she causes an enemy unit to make a Panic Test. But, before the opponent rolls, the Baratheon player can remove 1-3 Wounds from one of their units to cause the enemy’s roll to suffer the same number from their roll and deal that many extra Wounds should they fail. This can potentially swing a battle without ever having to meet the enemy head-on.

This only scratches the surface of what options greet Baratheon players with the release of this set. Followers of Stannis Baratheon can also look forward to playing Andrew Estermont, Selyse & Shireen, and Axell Florent.

The Baratheon Heroes #1 box set will be available soon.

Renly For the Iron Throne

Though Joffrey Baratheon currently sits on the Iron Throne, Robert’s brothers, Stannis and Renly, each feel that it should be them in that position. They have taken up arms in order to make a move on King’s Landing and assert themselves as the true heir. However, they are not teamed up to do this. They both feel the Iron Throne should be theirs and, as such, have torn House Baratheon in two. Everyone has had to choose sides in this house divided. The Baratheon Heroes #2 box set includes characters who have sworn loyalty to Renly. This new set will include a wealth of new options for House Baratheon players who have chosen to side with the younger Baratheon brother. Let’s take a look at just what comes inside.

House Baratheon is unique in the A Song of Ice and Fire: Tabletop Miniatures Game due to the House’s Loyalty rules. Different Characters will work for only one Baratheon brother or the other, and players aren’t able to mix Loyalties in their forces. So, if they choose to have an army that follows Renly, then only characters and units that are Loyal to him (or those that don’t have any Loyalty rules at all, like the House’s main-line units) may be fielded. This limiting of options means players will have to get creative with their builds. But it also means that those whose Loyalties lie together generally have good synergy between them.

Of the Unit Attachments that come in the Baratheon Heroes #2 box set, it would be remiss to have characters loyal to Renly without actually having Renly there. So, of course, he’s there and is a Commander option for the force. He brings his Unwavering Charisma to whatever unit he’s in. That grants the unit immunity to enemy Tactics cards or Influence by enemy NCUs. With how strong some Tactics cards and Influence abilities can be, not being able to be targeted by them is huge. The unit will live and die by the dice rolls in combat and not whatever dirty tricks the opponent might have in store. And where Renly is, Brienne is not far behind. When attached to a unit, she grants it Renly’s Protector. This ability lets her unit make a free attack or Charge action against any unit that targets Renly’s unit on the field, and even grants them extra dice when doing so. This can create a very powerful 1-2 punch, as Brienne’s unit turns into a very effective bodyguard for the hopeful king. Loras Tyrell also is available to add to player’s forces, with both a Commander and regular Attachment variety. His regular version adds Precision to his unit, meaning that when they roll 6s when they attack, those Hits don’t allow Defense Saves. He brings his practiced fencing skills to bear, letting his unit sneak their blades into enemy armor more easily.

The Tyrells also show up in the NCUs in the box set. Margaery Tyrell, whenever she claims a Zone on the Tactics Board, lets the Baratheon player either restore 1 Wound to a friendly unit or remove 1 Wound from an enemy unit. This allows the Baratheon player great versatility, as it might just be 1 Wounds, but it could mean gaining or losing an entire Rank for a unit or finish off an enemy who has been stubbornly clinging to the board with a single Wound left. While Margaery Tyrell focuses on Units, Olenna Tyrell’s sights are set on enemy NCUs. When she claims a Zone on the Tactics Board, she causes 1 enemy NCU to lose all Abilities until the end of the round.

But that’s hardly all, as Eldon Estermont and Cortnay Penrose also come in this box, bringing their own unique tricks to the Baratheon arsenal.

The Baratheon Heroes #2 box set will be available soon.

      • Das große Problem ist die Distribution innerhalb Europas und Amerikas. Der Asiatische Raum ist davon größtenteils verschont (hab letzte tage in Singapur Blackguards und Neutral Heroes 2 bestellt, beide boxen im oberen 30er Bereich vorhanden, ebenso alle anderen boxen die hierzulande schon ewig ausverkauft sind, DHL express hat übers Wochenende gebraucht für die Lieferung, durch Zoll ein bisschen teurer aber noch verkraftbar).

        Bestes Beispiel für Distributionsprobleme;
