Haulers are general utility vehicles and whilst they are not produced to a set design or pattern they always have a size and broad appearance that is dictated by practicality. Because they are living and work spaces as well as fighting machines they tend to be relatively bulky.

Whatever armaments they have are placed high upon their superstructure for good visibility. Haulers don’t always have weapons, but somehow they always seem to acquire them as soon as trouble starts – quite how is a mystery.

Each Hauler is likely to be built by or for its owner, affording all manner of variation in appearance and capability. However, Boromites are not fools when it comes to technology and are quick to make use of the best components wherever possible.

Haulers are invariably fully suspensored vehicles protected by fixed reflex style armour shielding augmented by hyperlight boosters where available.

Able to transport 10 Boromite troops, the Hauler is the go-to vehicle for the Boromite forces. Equipped with dual mag light support weapons, it can also comfortably deal with most infantry units whilst using its way above average 13 resist stat. There’s also plenty of room to upgrade as well as the hauler is able to take shield, spotter and batter drones, upgrade its weaponry and even be able to repair itself!

Antares Base One covers the basic rules and forces (well, a bit more than the basic) in an easy to follow format. The games designer, Rick Priestley, produced this set as a taster for the full game and as an accessible introduction to the Antares game system as a whole.

Base One is a bit more advanced than the step-by-step introductory book that is Kar’A Nine’s ‘Start Here’. It can even be seen as the core rules for Antares, containing everything needed to play a streamlined game and get a really good overview and taste of the system. Included within its 56 pages are the main rules, basic army lists, unit and weapon stats and selected special options for each of the major factions – all grouped together, as well. There are links and references to the full rules, so you can see where the game expands, and the simplified army lists give a really good flavour of each faction: for many there are suggested steps to take to extend the basic game even further!
