This versatile plastic set contains 6 sprues that represent unarmoured Pict warriors of the Late Roman period and Scots warriors of the Viking Age, covering two distinct and popular wargaming eras.
Armed with long spears or javelins, plus swords and axes, the figures can be assembled as massed spear formations, skirmishers, or tight shield walls. Distinctively shaped Pict shields are included.
The Picts, the “Painted People”, dominated northern Scotland from the 3rd century A.D., raiding by land and sea and threatening Roman and Romano-British frontiers.
Fighting in close order with long spears and light javelin support, they could even repel cavalry. From the 5th century, the Scots crossed from Ireland and founded the kingdom of Dál Riata in western Scotland. Over time they expanded, merged with the Picts, and unified the region under Kenneth MacAlpin in the 9th century.

The Picts, who dominated northern Scotland from the 3rd century A.D., used archers to support their massed spearmen and to launch sudden ambushes.Fighting in rough terrain, they relied on concealment, mobility and surprise to unsettle their enemies. There is evidence that the Picts used an early form of crossbow similar to the late Roman arcuballista, though whether it was used primarily for hunting or warfare remains uncertain.
