The clone forces of the Grand Army of the Republic are at their most potent when their skilled infantry fight synchronously alongside their armored support units; their clone pilots able to fight spiritually, if not literally, shoulder-to-shoulder with the Clone Trooper infantry on the ground. The spearhead of the clone army’s armored ranks, the Saber-Class Tank, is a microcosm of the clone army’s approach to warfare: deploying rapidly, deftly navigating the battlefield, and unleashing devastating attacks where the enemy lines are the weakest. Read along in today’s Scene to Stats, as we review the latest release for the Galactic Republic, the Saber-Class Tank!

The Saber-Class Tank unit is the mightiest Heavy unit available to the Galactic Republic yet. Sporting an impressive Wounds Threshold of 9 and the Armor 5 keyword, the Saber tank is only threatened by concentrated anti-armor fire. Agile well beyond its large size and heavy armor, it sports the Outmaneuver keyword to allow it to spend Dodge tokens to cancel Critical results when attacked, protecting it even from a lucky Attack roll! This speed does come at a cost, as it has weaker armor on its rear and side arcs. Even so, its Hover: Ground keyword allows it to Strafe to avoid exposing its flanks to small arms fire, and to keep its armaments facing the enemy ahead!

The tank’s Heavy Laser Cannons sport an impressive Range of 4, and a mix of Critical and Impact to threaten both enemy infantry and armored elements alike. This Attack Pool is only half the story, as the Saber-Class Tank has the Arsenal 2 keyword to utilize a second weapon when attacking. This second weapon may come from its Hardpoint upgrade options, to follow, or from its two Ordnance upgrade icons. The Ordnance Upgrade Cards include a variety of different warheads to meet any battle’s needs, to scatter infantry, counter enemy armor, or level an entrenched position!

The Saber-Class Tank comes replete with a number of Upgrade Cards to further augment both its offensive and defensive capabilities. The Twin Laser Turret provides a strong single-target option, perfect for combining with its Heavy Laser Cannons using Arsenal 2 to neutralize an enemy unit. The Beam Turret can sweep a number of enemy units with its Beam 2 keyword, applying damage and Suppression to several enemy Trooper units in a single arcing shot. Aayla Secura stands ready to hop into the pilot’s seat and bring her Jedi General status to your army, with the Field Commander and Inspire keyword to lead your Clone forces to victory. Alternatively, the gifted pilot Plo Koon can be equipped to grant the tank Agile 2, all the better to utilize its Outmaneuver keyword to its fullest.

The Saber-Class Tank stands ready to take on whatever arms and armor your adversaries may muster, and to support your clone infantry over the top and onwards to victory. This Heavy unit is the perfect add-on to your growing Recon army built using the Galactic Republic Starter Set, adding some vital armored elements to the elite infantry you have already assembled!
