Hollow Crown Miniatures: Kickstarter Update

Hollow Crown Miniatures zeigen ein paar neue Stretch Goals und geben ein Update zu ihrem Kickstarter.

Concepts from Ari

it’s Ari here with a design update. Firstly, I want to thank you all for your warm reception to the Order, and to the sculpts. I’ve had a blast with these, not least because of Jamie and Florian’s trust in letting me run point on the design aspect, which has made this the most collaborative project I’ve been part of. As we approach the final stretch of the campaign and our more involved stretch goals, I thought I’d take this opportunity to give a little insight on the design process and what we have planned. We, naturally enough, had several long conversations at the outset of the project about our vision for the Order and what thematic and practical aspects it should cover, collected various reference points and materials, and then set out from there.

I’m not much of an illustrator, but scribbling out some more or less diagrammatic ideas has always been a practical way to communicate what I have in mind with regards to posing and loadouts, before getting too deep in modelling things out. We haven’t shown any of these, at least not yet, because they’re pretty much shorthand, and subject to change. While this means that it takes a little longer to show you what we’re cooking up, it also gives us, and me, the flexibility to change things up as we go along, adding or removing elements until we hit the right balance. That said, while there are some stretch goals, like the additional Field-Knights, where the parts of the set we’ve already completed give you a pretty solid idea of what further pieces would look like, we’re approaching a couple of stretch goals now that are a little more left-field, most notably the Runt-Giant. I’ve written a little blurb, call it ‚lore‘, or a design outline as you wish, here:

„If, as some say, the giants of old Albion were once a proud race, there is little evidence of it now. Feared by the common man for their brute strength and distrusted by the Church for their elemental connection to the land, few could deny their utility. But as the centuries passed and the fields of England were swallowed up by the industries of war, their ties to the chalk, flint, and clay of the land began to fade. Though still of use in the munitions factories and on the battlefield, each passing generation of giant is born diminished. Culled to manageable levels, tamed, and cowed, the effects of inbreeding are apparent to all. Bones creak under the weight of the bodies they carry even before the gruelling work that earns them a stay of execution, and what language and culture they may once have had they dare not utter for fear of being branded ungodly. In the theatre of war, these stunted giants serve as little more than mobile weapons platforms, propped up and braced to carry armaments too heavy for the sucking mud, not led towards the enemy, but herded.“

The sketches here are a little more cleaned-up than the pencil jottings I tend to hit the group chat with, but I hope they’ll pique your interest and give you an idea of where we’re going with these. I’d like to reiterate that these are very much development sketches rather than finished concept illustrations, and will be subject to changes and tweaks in design, although the core of it is there. With larger models in particular, it’s necessary to work to the production parameters, mould-alignment, minimum thicknesses, overall volume, parts complexity, and so on, and there’s only so much posing information it’s possible (at least without a tranche of sketches) to convey at one time.

As far as the Ammo Hawker is concerned we can say this is pretty close to how a sculpt might turn out since there are fewer variables – unless, of course, I have a better idea for something along the line. While these things are not entirely locked-in, we hope you’ll appreciate that the flexibility we’re affording ourselves here is the flexibility to deliver the best final product we can.

Thanks again for all of your support. We’re pretty excited about these ideas, and hope we’ll have the opportunity to bring them to you as part of this Kickstarter.
