Flames of War: Firestorm Blitzkrieg France
Eine neue Kampagne für Fames of War ist da!
Firestorm: Blitzkrieg France Is Here!
Every battle fought in World War II was part of a campaign — even as each battle was being fought the generals were planning the next one. The conclusion of every successful campaign affected the course of the war as a whole. By participating in a campaign you can make a valuable contribution to your side’s war effort.
Campaigning adds a whole new dimension to your Flames Of War battles. Individual battles become part of an unfolding story as your fortune fluctuates between victories and defeats. Instead of just a single victory, can you string together a series of victories and prove your superior generalship? Or perhaps, as you get the measure of your opponent’s force, you can turn early defeats into a triumphant reversal in a later battle.

Over the last few weeks myself (Wayne) and Battlefront’s good friend Jökull have been working on a Firestorm campaign to represent the German invasion of France in 1940. Firestorm Blitzkrieg France is an exciting campaign that puts you into the roles of German and Allied commanders during the fateful spring of 1940.

What is the Firestorm Campaign System?
Firestorm was originally the name of the campaign system created by Battlefront in the quest for a system that allows ultimate flexibility, whilst still retaining the ability for individual players to affect the final outcome. The first Firestorm campaign, Firestorm: Bagration was quickly followed by Firestorm: Market Garden and their success quickly paved the way for keen Flames Of War enthusiasts to create their own Firestorm campaigns.
Firestorm campaigns are a great way to gather your local gaming community together to play a series of linked games with an overall objective.
Each time that players complete a game, they mark their victories on the map as locations change hands. Once the appropriate number of games have been played, the campaign is over and the side holding cities of the greatest value wins.
Each campaign can be played in a single intense day of gaming, or spread out over several weeks.
What to expect in Firestorm Blitzkrieg France
Firestorm Blitzkrieg France is the first Firestorm designed for tournament play. It still works very well as a normal Firestorm but the rules have been adjusted to play it as a tournament, five rounds for five turns.
This is done because older Firestorms make it hard to play well during a tournament. The main reason is that previous Firestorms give you an opportunity to place battle arrows from areas you have conquered in the turn and in fact rely on rapid advance.
In this Firestorm Battle arrows are place only once per turn in the Planning Phase and not during the Battle Phase. This means that the fighting is only going to be in these areas in this turn. You will quickly realise that means that you will only fight for a few areas each turn.
What if you have more players and games? You can play multiple battles in each area. Each game will have the same Firestorm units* available for the players and then the games played are totalled together to determine who won.
If you are not playing a weekend tournament the Firestorm works the same, but adjust it to your time frame. There is no need to play every battle as you can use the combat mechanics from the General’s Wargame and simply roll off for the areas you do not have time to play actual games.
Whatever you do, remember always be friendly and have fun!

*Firestorm Troops add some reinforcing troops to your force and can help turn the tide in any battle. Most importantly they don’t cost you any points… who wouldn’t want a Matilda II supporting their army for free!
