Durgin Paint Forge: Iron Crow Sentinels
Über Patreon veröffentlichen Durgin Paint Forge ihre neues Iron Crow Sentinels Kit.
Reforging the past: Iron Crow Sentinels!
„Certain loves never truly end, they just take the long way around and come back”, sang Antonello Venditti back in 1991, when I was barely three years old. And honestly? Those words have never felt more accurate.
The universe of Inneath was born with the Iron Crow Sentinels. You could say they were the spark that lit the Big Bang of this entire range, starting with the glorious Sentinel A, Sentinel B, and Sentinel C.
After warming up with the first incredible Iron Crow Warriors kit, I felt the need to revisit this archetype and bring it fully in line with the new incarnation of the project. It was the perfect opportunity to refine the design and, by popular demand, finally update the female half of the range.
Spot the focaccia!
This kit includes 65 components, all designed to maximise internal modularity and offer a wide array of aesthetic configurations. That’s both the blessing and the curse of this new phase of Inneath.
A blessing, because with a single kit I can now explore each character type in ways that were previously unthinkable (and for a chronically indecisive creator like me, expanding creative possibilities is a gift from the heavens).
A curse, because when you’re dealing with Dwarves, modularity is always a battlefield. Why?Beards!
Still, these are the kinds of design challenges that, once overcome, bring immense satisfaction. And despite the many compromises this approach inevitably requires, I’m genuinely proud of the final result.
Working on the Sentinels’ faces and their chunky backpacks was pure ambrosia for my sculptor’s heart. I can’t wait to print a couple and start throwing some paint on them.
Compared to the Warriors kit, this one leans more into the fairy-tale and colourful side of the Dwarves of Kazhuk Izril. I had great fun adding small whimsical details here and there—like the classic travel cheese selection, or a modified hood designed to accommodate one Sentinel’s magnificently protruding ears.
And yes: by popular request, the other half of the sky of Kazhuk Izril now wears the armour of the Iron Crows! You can finally paint and field both Sentinels and Warriors in female versions, with plenty of options to choose from.
My personal favourite? The closed-helmet version, inspired by one of my greatest passions: Saint Seiya:
She definitely knows how to burn her cosmo!!
It might not be immediately obvious from the render, but the female mask-helmet design takes inspiration from the masks worn by female Saints, though with one crucial improvement: actual eye holes!
Speaking of mask helmets, the kit also includes everything you need to assemble another iconic character: the Iron Crow Raider.
Here, I opted for a soft reboot of the original model, reshuffling the deck to create something new yet instantly recognisable. The bomb design of the original sculpt has been reimagined into a distinctive, slightly sinister helmet that immediately marks this cheerful assassin for what he is.
The bombs themselves have been simplified, and I designed a dedicated backpack packed with everything the Raider needs to excel at his profession:
blowing things up,
striking when no one can see you,
and scattering the battlefield with various infernal contraptions.
Last (but certainly not least!), a kit that completes the Iron Crow Sentinels: the inseparable Imperial Crow Familiars.
This new incarnation follows the same philosophy as the more recent Imperial Crow sculpts: simpler and more enjoyable to paint, and infinitely less fragile.
The design has been stylised and streamlined without sacrificing its unique personality. The sculpt avoids thin, delicate elements prone to breakage. The pose is more perched compared to the original kit, but that small compromise guarantees miniatures as solid as rock (If rock happened to be made of resin…)
And that’s all for now, my friends!
If you’re a 3D-print enthusiast, you can already download and print these two kits by joining my Patreon—which, incidentally, also helps fund the next wave of miniatures.
If you still love the analog world, don’t worry: a BIG resin release is coming in June.
No preorder.
No crowdfunding.
Just a flood of new Dwarves (and Crows!) ready to ship, and be lovingly adopted (some of them even painted!) by you.
