Azlanov brings tactical discipline to the wild frontier — rallying warriors with calm authority before throwing himself headlong into the fray.

These shield-bearing juggernauts stand firm with Unyielding resolve, forming a living wall of steel and Umbrean stubbornness.

A force-multiplier draped in tradition, the Primalist grants his unit the aspect of beasts, allowing unique enhancements each activation — from the charge of the stag to the cunning of the wolf.

Graceful, brutal, and terrifyingly fast, this lone predator leaps from shadow to shadow, inspiring its pack as it tears into prey.

A hulking, corpse-devouring horror that grows stronger with every kill — and makes sure the enemy doesn’t get back up.

Heroes & Villains: Kapitan Maksim Azlanov

New lore has just landed in the Warmachine App, spotlighting our new Umbrean hero and warlock, Kapitan Maksim Azlanov.

Born to the harsh traditions of the Azlanov clan, Maksim was raised with no softness, no comfort, and no illusions. We see his journey from nomadic shepherd to Winter Guard conscript, then to war hero, and finally to the defiant protector of Umbrey. With his enchanted greatsword and bond to the beasts of the wilds, Azlanov leads not from behind, but from the heart of the storm.

“…In the most remote and secluded stretches of Umbrey roam nomadic clansmen known as Yhari-Umbreans. To an outsider, the title is misleading; rather than a single united people, each Yhari-Umbrean clan is culturally diverse to the others.

Despite not being organised by any greater authority than their own tribal elders, most Yhari-Umbreans are pastoral shepherds that tend to support each other in the name of mutual survival. Over centuries most clans have built a network of pacts and alliances offering assistance and security in times of hardship. There are, of course, exceptions to this. Some clans are more isolationist than others, understanding such assistance was a weakness to be ashamed of.

The Azlanov are one of these clans.

The clan take inspiration from a long extinct wild cat that used to rule Umbrey’s mountainous stretches, a solitary animal that was famous for fending off opposition with its strength and cunning. Accordingly, from a young age, children of the clan are taught that they were expected to range independently and expect no aid or sympathy should they be hurt or need comfort. Maksim Azlanov was no exception; he soon learned that the hallmark of a strong individual amongst his clan was the ability to stand alone in carving a future from the unforgiving landscape.

Parents within the Azlanov clan are typically absent. Praise is sparse, and criticism common. Being too harsh is perceived to be a lesser sin than being too lenient and raising a weak child, and experience and consequence are regarded as the greatest teachers. Accordingly, Azlanov children become their own educators, learning cause and effect at the same time as awareness of their surroundings; the unknown can always be relied upon to provide a painful new lesson.

As Maksim reached fourteen summers old, the Children of Agha visited the Azlanovs. The Yhari-Umbreans universally respected Zevanna Agha as a caretaker to the lands, a belief even observed by the stern Azlanovs. When the visitors informed Maksim’s parents that he was to experience the wilding, it was agreed that he would be released into the woods to survive of his own accord. The Children of Agha would not intervene, but his trial would need to take place in a warded domain lest the Blackclad druids from the Circle Orboros detected his presence… “
