Call it dumb luck, the hand of fate, or the Will of the Force: an unexpected chain of events started by a misplaced astromech droid on a mission would lead to an impromptu rescue and unite an idealistic farmboy, a willful princess, and a pair of scoundrels. These unlikely heroes would go on to lead the Rebellion to destroy two Death Stars, defeat Emperor Palpatine, and restore the Republic. Read on for more in today’s Scene to Stats, where we explore the Star Wars™: Legion Heroes of the Rebellion Character Expansion!

Luke Skywalker, Hero of the Rebellion is one of the original Commander units for Star Wars: Legion and has seen many changes over the years, all combined on his new Unit Card. Brash as is befitting his Skywalker name, Luke comes complete with the Jump 1 and Charge keywords to make him a mobile and formidable duelist even with his modest formal training. But he does not need to dive straight into melee – Luke’s Blaster carries a powerful ranged attack: Long Shot and Pierce 1 combine with his natural Sharpshooter 1 to ensure he never misses his mark.

Luke Skywalker comes with access to a number of Command Cards; each version of Luke using them to unique effect. Luke Skywalker, Hero of the Rebellion will rarely be included in your army without Son of Skywalker, which ensures a very powerful double Attack off of a Charge move, often at the very start of the round with priority thanks to its coveted 1 pip. My Ally is the Force can provide Luke and another unit Dodge tokens, enabling his own Block keyword, and synergizing with common Rebel Alliance unit keywords like Nimble, Outmaneuver, or Teamwork on other units he Orders – including several of the other characters in this very expansion! Return of the Jedi layers with Luke’s own Inspire 2 keyword to remove yet more Suppression tokens from your army, perfect to rebuff the Empire’s Suppressive weaponry.

After training with Jedi Master Yoda and facing his father on Bespin, Luke Skywalker committed himself to mastering his gifts to better protect his friends and confront the Emperor. Luke Skywalker, Jedi Knight reflects Luke at the height of his skill with both the Force and with the lightsaber, now carrying one of his own design. This version of Luke is an Operative unit – notably, not serving in a commanding capacity – and his unit keywords are specialized to directly confronting the Rebel Alliance’s most dire threats and stymieing their foe’s advance. He carries a greater Wound Threshold, greater Courage, and more attack dice on his weapon of choice, Luke’s Lightsaber, which also has a higher Pierce value. Most notably, the Disengage keyword allows Luke to Move while in Melee at will, provided he is not in Melee with multiple enemy units, reserving his Force powers for where they are needed most and making him difficult to pin down – he has learned much! With Master of the Force 1 and three Force icons on his upgrade bar, Luke Skywalker, Jedi Knight can be equipped in countless ways with Force powers to further enhance his capabilities.

The You Serve Your Master Well Command Card is exclusive to this version of Luke Skywalker, who can equip Jedi Mind Trick to add Suppression tokens to an enemy unit before using the Free Card action to apply even more, likely Panicking them! Full of Surprises synergises with his markedly high Courage value, allowing him to roll up to 4 additional white defense dice when attacked, which become even more powerful when his Deflect keyword is applied. Certainly not least: I am a Jedi allows Luke Skywalker, Jedi Knight to prevent two enemy units from attacking the entire Round, provided he is willing to similarly disarm himself. A well-timed I am a Jedi can turn the game on its head; it is particularly powerful against units that would have attacked more than once if unopposed by Luke, such as Imperial Dark Troopers or Darth Vader when playing his Implacable Command Card!

Leia Organa, Fearless and Inventive has been a feature of Star Wars: Legion nearly as long as her brother, Luke, and returns to the game with a similarly refreshed unit card. She now sports the Exemplar keyword, allowing nearby Rebel Alliance units to make use of her Aim and Dodge tokens, the latter of which are particularly powerful in a faction built on a foundation of Nimble Rebel Troopers! The Take Cover 2 Card action keeps her and her allies well-stocked on Dodge tokens, and her native Inspire 2 keeps them cool even under heavy fire. Leia’s Blaster has had its Range improved, allowing her to lend her sharpshooting talents from relative safety within your army and with nearby allies to lend her Backup.

On the topic of fire support, the Coordinated Bombardment Command Card sees Leia calling targets for the Rebel Alliance’s distinguished starfighter squadrons; a powerful opening Command Card or a clutch round closer, defeating an enemy unit leader on a far-flung Command Card with its infinite range! No Time for Sorrows grants a Move to ordered friendly units, allowing for a swift position before the Activation Phase starts properly. Somebody Has to Save Our Skins allows for a rare back-to-back Activation, allowing Leia to Inspire a unit to greater feats right before you Activate them!

Han Solo, Unorthodox General represents the former-Captain Solo reluctantly assuming the burdens of leadership, heading Rebel strike teams against insurmountable odds. Han Solo is a capable gunslinger, most comfortable on your battlefields applying his Steady keyword to its fullest to deftly navigate Cover while sharpshooting Stormtroopers after a Move action. Low Profile and Uncanny Luck combine to create a deceptively resilient scoundrel, especially when a furry co-pilot is nearby to grant Backup and Guardian!

Han Solo returns with his notoriously powerful suite of Command Cards as well. Sorry About the Mess has only 0 pips on it, virtually guaranteed to win priority on a pivotal round! Reckless Diversion can limit your opponents’ attack options on their turns, as brave or foolhardy units with a faceup Order token peel attention away from the rest of your army. Last but certainly not least, Change of Plans returns as one of the most infamous Command Cards in Star Wars: Legion, returning your opponent’s chosen Command Card back to their hand and forcing them to pick an alternative.

Chewbacca, Walking Carpet is a fiercely loyal companion to Han and his newfound family, not to mention a talented engineer, pilot, and combatant! His Guardian 4 keyword allows him to protect any friends of the Rebel Alliance nearby, but of particular note allows him to provide Backup to all of the characters described so far. He pairs naturally with Han in your army’s Commander role, thanks to the Teamwork: Han Solo keyword, which often doubles your returns on any actions or cards which may generate them Aim or Dodge tokens. If your opponent is unwise enough to upset him, Enrage 4 will grant Chewbacca Charge and a null Courage value: all the better to rip arms off with the Overwhelm attack!

Chewbacca’s Command Hand is unique for its emphasis on Army Building and teamwork between him and his friends. Command Cause is a rare 1-pip that issues more than a single Order; in this case to both Luke and Chewbacca, allowing them to work in tandem at a crucial turning point of the game. Brains and Brawn allows Leia Organa to team up with Chewie to deliver a powerful combined Ranged attack. Notorious Scoundrels allows Chewbacca to return to hand any one of Han Solo’s discarded Command Cards; the only thing better than a Change of Plans is playing it a second time!
