MAY 2025 – Fury and Faith & Call of the Herd
Two paths. No mercy
This month we present two opposing forces.
One marches from the north: farmers turned fighters, trance-driven warriors, and seers who speak with roots and bones. The other rises from forgotten lands, far from patrol roads and noble banners. Where luminarias rot, bodies twist. And what was once elven memory becomes soil for something else.
MAY IN THE ADVENTURER — Fury and Faith
Available to all members of the historical tier this month.
“In this year fierce, foreboding omens came over the land of the Northumbrians… and indeed, these were immense flashes of lightning and fiery dragons were seen flying in the sky. A great famine soon followed, and not long after, in the same year, the harrying of the heathen men miserably destroyed God’s church at Lindisfarne.”
— Anglo-Saxon Chronicle, AD 793This month we head north, into a time of storms, blades and bone runes. From hardened warriors and wild berserkers to humble homesteads and enigmatic wise men, our May release captures the raw, grounded essence of the Viking world.
Norse Shaman and Apprentice
Beyond the battlefield, there were those who whispered to the spirits. Shamans kept the memory of forgotten gods and walked the narrow path between fear and wisdom. The young apprentice learns not only the rites, but how to carry the weight of silence.
Ulfhednar — Warriors in Wolfskin
These elite fighters, described in Norse sagas, wrapped themselves in wolf pelts and fought with reckless abandon. Said to be touched by Odin himself, they embodied the animal’s ferocity—half-man, half-beast, entirely war.
Viking Berserkers
Unarmoured and unrelenting, the berserkers were feared even by their own kin. In battle, they fought in trance-like rage, biting shields and charging without fear. They were the storm in the midst of order—glorious, dangerous, and unpredictable.
Bondis and Hirdmen
The backbone of Viking warfare. Bondis were free farmers summoned to arms by law or loyalty, while hirdmen served their chieftain with better training and equipment. Together, they made up the shieldwalls that thundered across Britain and Francia.
Viking Woodcutter’s Hut
Based on historical reconstructions from early medieval Scandinavia, this log structure reflects everyday life on the fringes of the wilderness. It’s a place of labour, shelter, and stories told by firelight—essential to survival, and to the soul of the North.
THE BANNERMAN – MAY
The Outcasts of the Lower Forest
“They do not ride. They do not wear harnesses. They are hunger and charge made flesh.”
— Frontier saying, AverniaAvernia maintains its strongholds, but not all its land is secure. Around certain abandoned elven luminarias, corrupted sap has given rise to new forms of life. The High Kingdom has not contained them. These are not tribes, armies, or cults. They are herds—and they’ve learned to move.
This month, The Bannerman brings you the Outcasts: beings shaped by collapse and long exposure to ruined places. The frontier doesn’t overlook them. It fears them.
CHARACTERS
Hrothgûl, Shepherd of the Bloodied Moon
He moves where the frontier gives way to ash and undergrowth. He gives no orders, yet the herd gathers. Mounted on a twisted boar, Hrothgûl is said to hear the forest’s voice and shift the herd’s pace without a word. He leaves no settlements, only movement.
Vorgûl, the Ruin of the Arena
Once displayed as a symbol of power by Avernia’s nobility, Vorgûl escaped and fell into a corrupted luminaria. Its black sap healed and twisted him. He emerged as something else: a hulking form with no purpose but to keep moving. Wherever he goes, order breaks.
Goorhooves
A centaur-shaped being with a warped stag’s body and thick, uneven muscle. He walks the edges, carrying a rusted scythe with a jagged blade and bent handle. He speaks to no one. He issues no commands. But whenever he appears, the herd strikes soon after.TROOPS
The Mongrel Horde (Outcasts)
They don’t form ranks. They surge in bulk. Some are born from tainted wombs, others from proximity to active luminarias. They carry short spears, broken blades, leather-bound stones, torn shields. They move on instinct. They group by reflex. They are always the first to reach the enemy.CREATURES
Taurgash, Herald of the Red Moon
A former giant who fell into a broken luminaria and absorbed its corrupted sap. His body grew massive while his mind diminished. He reacts with violence to everything. His presence reorders the herd. Where Taurgash walks, structures fall apart. He doesn’t lead. He breaks paths.
Goreboars of the Red Moon
Mutated boars born after corrupted sap reached the wild herds of the north. Their bodies are covered in black fur, bone plates, and scraps of armor fused to their flesh. Some carry broken banners lodged in their backs. They are not mounts. They charge in packs, drawn to blood, magic, and the ruins of elven cities. They don’t behave like cavalry. They hit in waves. Their mass tears through formations. Their grunts echo like hollow drums in the mist. What they leave behind is mud, blood, and broken stone.DELIVERY · CONTACT · FINAL WORD
