Hail Caesar: Testudo
Warlord Games starten die Vorbestellung für eine Testudo der Römer.
Die Schildkröte mitsamt Centurio kostet 33,50€ und wird im Dezember veröffentlicht.
On those few occasions when the mighty legions of Rome were outfought or outwitted on the battlefield it often spawned greater Roman innovation, technology, or tactical skill.
When pelted with sling shot, spears, or arrows by the enemies of Rome across the known world, Rome came up with the answer – the testudo!
A whistle blown, shouted commands, and the legionaries formed the ‚tortoise‘, a legendary formation where all troops protected themselves with an interlocking ’shell‘ of scutum shields that enabled them to survive incoming missiles, before moving to the assault!
This testudo comes complete with grim-faced legionaries, arrows to pepper your scutum shields, and a stern centurion keeping the formation going!

Konnte man historisch tatsächlich beide Flanken schützen?
Dass ein Schutz nach vorne und oben gegeben war, ist klar, aber bei dem Modell müssten die Legionäre links oder rechts zwei Schilde tragen, sonst funktioniert das doch gar nicht wie am Modell dargestellt. Ist es nicht realistischer, dass eine Seite entblößt bleiben würde?
