First Blood – Mustering a Warband
As we march further towards the grand release of the new edition of First Blood, it is time for generals to prepare their forces for combat. Today we will provide guidance for new and returning players alike on what to expect when it comes mustering a Warband.
Your Warband is the collective term for all the Warriors you field in a battle. A Warband is composed of Warlords, Heroes, Mainstay Regiments, Restricted Regiments, and Monsters with their own allotments and restrictions depending on the size of battle. Here is a quick rundown of each type:
Warlords: Generals, battlefield commanders, and your most powerful Characters in your Warband.
Heroes: Officers, assassins, advisors, and anything in between.
Mainstay Regiments: Reliable and efficient, these Warriors make up the heart of your fighting force.
Restricted Regiments: These Warriors represent the rarer and specialized contingents of a Warband, ranging from the elite to the exotic.
Monsters: From flying terrors to lumbering behemoths, Monsters surge into battle with unmatched might and fury.
The new First Blood combines these different types of Warriors into a scaling organization chart; this determines the maximum size of regiments and how many Warlords, Heroes, and Monsters you may field. One universal rule regardless of the size of battle is that all Command Cards are unique and may only be fielded once in a Warband. As individual Warriors of a Regiment are now free to move and fight independently across the battlefield, to bring more of a type of Warrior you simply purchase additional Warriors instead of purchasing a duplicate of that Regiment. This ensures that there is no confusion on what Warriors have activated or not and allows for a greater variety in the composition of Warbands that you fight on the battlefield.
The other important aspect of Warband construction is the interaction between Mainstay Regiments, Restricted Regiments, and Warlords. For each Mainstay Regiment included in a Warband, you may field a single Restricted Regiment. Many Warlords have a Retinue listed in their profile that, when included in your Warband, converts the specified Restricted Regiment into a Mainstay Regiment. Monsters utilize their own slots in your Warband as indicated by the organization chart. Finally, Monster Characters such as the fearsome Fallen Divinity or a mighty Bergont Raegh are so powerful that they take up both a Monster and a Warlord slot.
To top it all off, in addition to the various options that are available for Regiments such as Command Models and additional Warriors. Characters, which include Warlords, Heroes, and even Regiment Leaders, may purchase Character Upgrades which customize your Characters with potent artifacts and battlefield training.
You soon will be able to prepare your forces and Muster your very own Warbands. War echoes in the distance as the time to spill First Blood draws ever nearer. Check back soon for more articles and content exploring the revamped First Blood!
