This month’s specific lore below:

Mirrabundara Effigy

The patron god of the Boondaburra is named Mirrabundara, translated as “The Six-Armed Protector of All Tides”. This monumental effigy is held in their most sacred temple which stands on a cliff overlooking the sea, where it can watch over the seafaring Boondaburra no matter where they are. Offerings are made to the patron god before each journey, and a drink is taken from the sacred waters that flow from the bowl in its hand. It is said that if Mirrabundara does not smile on your journey, the waters will turn foul and poison you.

Boondaburra Temple Guards

Being chosen as a temple guard at the Great Temple is an honor beyond reckoning for the devoted followers of Mirrabundara. Only the most loyal are chosen to serve, and life as a temple guard is well paid and usually idyllic. The heroic uniform consists of a headdress that resembles the sun, which rises and kneels at Mirrabundara’s prompting, and a signature golden staff with a finial representing the living waters of Mirrabundara’s bowl. Temple guards are picked from among the priesthood which has martial studies alongside theological, although their education admittedly leans towards the latter.

Bindagari

Frilled lizard folk who live on the periphery of polite society, the Bindagari are an excitable and disorganized bunch. Though perfectly friendly to their allies, they are extremely aggressive towards their enemies and are known for their intimidating displays and frequent personal feuds. Though honest and generally dependable, they aren’t known for a culture of intellectualism – their settlements are rowdy and rough around the edges at best, and most make a living as mercenaries.

Jarruk – Bindagari Warrior

Subtlety not being part of Jarruk’s vocabulary, it’s no surprise that many find him… a bit much. While cocky and unfiltered, he does have the fighting skill to back up his attitude. The signature rush of the Bindagari, combined with the fully opened frill, makes for a distracting and obfuscated attack. Alongside the unpredictable boomerang weapon, shocked opponents are often knocked out before they can even get their bearings. Jarruk’s aim, even during a mad dash at the enemy, is unerring more often than not. Much more often than the crazed flail of his limbs would suggest.

Ngamari

One of the major allies of the Boondaburra are the Ngamari, dugong folk who mainly live in the oceans off the Northern coast of the Boondaburran continent. Though fully integrated into Boondaburra society, they are most comfortable in their historical sea cities and only live on land for short periods of time (if they can help it). The slower pace of life, the gentle motion of the sea, and the freshness of the seagrasses, simply can’t be beat. Notable for their mastery of water magic, their traditional Wave Dancing art is a dignified magic that they pass down freely to any who wish to learn, ensuring that the art is kept alive for generations to come.

Luwara – Ngamari Wave Dancer

A master Wave Dancer, Luwara is an esteemed teacher of the art, famed for her gracefulness. Though mastery is not necessarily tied to aesthetics, the top Wave Dancers take pride in weaving the two together, making their magic an expression of their own physicality. Luwara’s determined and patient personality come through wonderfully in her dancing as well as her instruction style, and she is a highly sought after master. However, one would be mistaken to think such a beautiful art is soft; the power of the waves is nothing if not inexorable.

Jirawin

In the rainforests and coastal mangrove forests of Boondaburra live the nocturnal Jirawin, sugar glider folk. These small, deft, and silent acrobats are unbeatable in their home turf. Fearless and agile, they can scale trees in a heartbeat before launching themselves through the air towards a target, whether that is a foe or their next perch. They are loath to give up this advantage, so are rarely found in flatland areas where they would be forced to walk. Indeed, to “touch dirt” is often considered an insult to them, implying a serious mistake or miscalculation. Their dizzying tree-top villages are suspended high above the forest floor, making use of the canopy foliage to hide their bases of operations.

Rinji – Jirawin Assassin

Like most of the Jirawin, Rinji is a warrior who relies on stealth, surprise, and swooping attacks from above. His two hooked knives are multipurpose, allowing him variously to slice or catch his prey, or latch onto branches and bark. A bit of a daredevil even among a folk known for throwing themselves off treetops, Rinji has an insatiable need for adrenaline and is constantly finding new ways to push the limits of his acrobatics. He often uses the hooked knives to swing around branches or smaller trunks in order to catapult himself in another direction or make a second pass at a foe, making him an incredibly slippery opponent.
