Carnevale: The Great Game Hunt – Heavy Venetian Guard
The Great Game Hunts release is rapidly approaching, which means we’ll soon be seeing the Patricians running rampant across the cobblestones of Venice. Having previously looked at the graceful Mounted Venetian Noble, we think it’s a wise choice to provide an overview of her lackey and powerful enforcer, the Heavy Venetian Guard.
With pockets as deep as the Patricians, it can’t really be a surprise that the City Guard has fallen under their control. Plucked from the ranks of loyal soldiers due to their sadistic nature, some guards find themselves enthralled in the Great Game Hunt. Sadly, this particular Venetian Heavy Guard has abandoned his oath to protect the citizens of Venice, instead hunting the weak and vulnerable. Like many members of the Patricians, this brute has donned a mask to conceal his identity, but there’s no mistaking his origin.
We know what you’re thinking: here comes a dumb man with a big hammer to swing, and you’re 100% right. Sharing the same stats as the original Heavy Guard, this Hero is a battering ram seeking a target. Armed with the Spiked warhammer, this vicious two-handed weapon can either be thrust into your victims within 1“ range and provides -1 evasion along with –2 penetration. Yet, what you’ll really want to do is swing that hammer high and wide. When you’re in base contact with the enemy, swing hard and fast, as this provides +1 evasion along with +1 damage. In terms of Character Abilities, this lumbering brute has the Companion (Officer) and Expert Protection (3) special rules. As many of you will have noticed, the sculpt has changed significantly since the original Heavy Guards release, and the reason for this is the variety in life. Our design team wanted to ensure the guard uniform remained present in some capacity, hence the trousers, boots, and hat being unchanged, along with the weapons; yet we felt the repose gave us a chance to place emphasis on the hunt. The heavy shield has been strapped to his back because he won’t need it to brutalize the citizens of Venice, after all, he’s not protecting them, but murdering them.
Let us know what you think of the miniature? We’ll be back with more information on the rest of our little hunting party this week.
