Carnevale: Blood Bartering

Venice is a city filled with Harlots willing to indulge all kinds of fantasies, so long as their patrons have the Ducats to pay. Recently, the ladies of the night are growing less interested in traditional means of payment for services and now favour blood above all things. Poor citizens desperate for pleasure are willing to enthrall themselves for a fleeting release from their mundane lives.

The Indebted are citizens who have racked up an unpayable fee to the Harlots and are now enthralled to their will. Forced to commit crimes and potentially even murder for the House of Virtue, each life they take reduces the amount owed, with the hope that eventually their debt will be wiped clean. Currently, no Indebted has survived long enough to reclaim their freedom. Whilst being forced into servitude to the Guild isn’t for everyone, there have been several Indebted who’ve reveled in the chance to kill.

Whilst the House of Virtue might be wicked enough to enslave its poorer customers, the organization isn’t cruel. Before being deployed, each Indebted is armed with a short sword to weigh their life against. As you’d expect, there are no heroes here. Indebted act as heavy-handed Henchmen with limited life but respectable Movement and Dexterity, but limited Attack, and Protection stats, as a revealing shirt isn’t going to block much damage. This character does provide some benefits, with ‚Paying Off My Debts‚ being a particularly useful tool. When this character kills an enemy character with a Combat action, add 1 re-roll to your Mob Mentality pool. Additionally, here’s a breakdown of the Pulse Command Ability for those new to the Guild,

– For every friendly character in line of sight to this character (including this character), add a re-roll to your Mob Mentality Pool. When activated, until the end of the round, any friendly character may use these re-rolls on any roll – one re-roll per dice.

As many Indebted are in a rush to regain their lost freedom, these unskilled fighters often charge into combat without thought. Yet, this can be a benefit as Indebted have the First Strike (2) character ability, which modifies their Attack by 2 when making an attack of opportunity from charging.
