Japanese Infantry and Heavy Weapons Platoon – €85,00

Warlord Games Bolt Action Armies Of Japan Preorder 2

Of all the major combatants in WWII, the Japanese relied most on their infantry and light support weapons. Luckily we’ve got you covered, as the plastic infantry sprue is packed full of LMGs, Light Mortars, sniper rifle and anti-tank weapons and, for the first time in plastic, a Medium Machine Gun. This means you can make an Infantry Platoon with units of IJA or SNLF infantry or grenadiers, supported by a Heavy Weapons Platoon of Medium Machine Guns and even more Light Mortars!

This bundle contains two Japanese Army Infantry Platoons for a total of 60 models, including 20 Light Mortars and 10 Medium Machine Guns (with six 60mm bases).

Type 97 Isuzu truck – €36,00

Warlord Games Bolt Action Armies Of Japan Preorder 3

The Japanese Light Truck Type 97 was based on the Isuzu truck TX40, sharing parts common to the Type 94 Truck. The Type 97 could be found in almost all areas of the Pacific war as a principal truck for the IJA until the end of the war.

Japanese trucks were inclined to be narrow to suit local roads and had high ground clearance to cope with uneven surfaces. They tended to be quite heavy compared to British equivalents and some were almost exact copies of the 1939 Chevrolet.

In Bolt Action, the Type 97 counts as a Light Truck, an inexpensive and reliable way to transport up to 8 men across the tabletop, or tow lighter artillery pieces.

Type 91 So-Mo armoured car – €36,00

Warlord Games Bolt Action Armies Of Japan Preorder 4

Also referred to as the Type 91 broad-gauge railroad tractor, the So-Mo has the unusual distinction of being able to quickly switch from road to rail. The So-Mo could achieve speeds of around 25 miles per hour on roads and almost twice that on railroads. Fielded by both the Imperial Japanese Army and the SNLF during World War II, the six-wheel-drive So-Mo also served in the 1937 Japanese invasion of China. The vehicle did not have integral weapons, but the crew often carried a 7.7mm machine gun that was fired through the observation ports in the turret.

Despite its light LMG armament, the So-Mo provides a relatively inexpensive armoured car for a Japanese force, which has the dual benefit of being able to transport six infantrymen across the battlefield. It is particularly useful if the battlefield contains any railroads!

Isuzu Type 98 AA machine cannon carrier – €40,00

Warlord Games Bolt Action Armies Of Japan Preorder 5

The Isuzu Type 98 AA Machine Gun Carriers married a Type 98 20mm automatic cannon with the back of a Type 94 or (later) a Type 96 six-wheeled truck. The Type 98 20mm autocannon was the most common light anti-aircraft gun of the Imperial Japanese Army, with a range of 5,500 metres, and could fire up to 300 rounds a minute. These self-propelled anti-aircraft guns were not mass-produced, the few that saw service were deployed in the air defence units of Japanese tank divisions.

The Type 98 AA truck provides a Japanese force with its sole dedicated anti-aircraft option. It is armed with a platform-mounted light automatic cannon with the Flak special rule, but is equally deadly if turned upon ground-based infantry or lighter vehicles!

Special Figure: Alongside Armies of Imperial Japan is the Hiroo Onada special miniature. Onada was an IJA officer who is best known for being one of the last Japanese holdouts, continuing to fight nearly 29 years after the conclusion of WWII on Lubang Island in the Philippines. He resolutely refused to believe any evidence supplied to him that the war was over. This special miniature depicts him at the beginning of his campaign of guerrilla warfare, in his early 20s.
