Corvus Belli: New Plastic Resin Miniatures

Official Announcement: new plastic resin miniatures
We at Corvus Belli are excited to announce the arrival of a new material for our miniatures. As you know, we like to investigate and evolve our manufacturing process, whether it be by refining and improving traditional metal manufacturing or innovating with new materials like thermoplastics, investing in it and acquiring new machinery for in-house manufacturing. In our quest to continue improving and offering you the best possible product, we have been testing the manufacturing of miniatures with a new material from an external supplier called Unicool for several months now. And today, we are happy to introduce it to you!
What is the material?
The material they use is a plastic resin, a mixture of resin and PVC that maintains a high level of detail but is not as fragile as conventional resin. It is a harder material than the thermoplastic you are already familiar with, but it is not a fragile material and is also flexible.
When it comes to filing and cleaning the pieces, you will not encounter any problems and assembly is quite simple, as you can already imagine. On the other hand, the glue we recommend using to glue the pieces together is cyanoacrylate.
If we talk about painting, this material does not require any special consideration in this regard, both for priming and painting, so you can continue to use the material you normally use.
Finally, if any part of the miniature bends, it is as simple as putting the piece in hot water for a few seconds, straightening the piece, and when it cools down it will be back in place.
Why are we making this change?
In addition to our manufacturing in metal and thermoplastic, we continue to investigate and search for new solutions that maintain the quality we demand from our products. We want to have alternatives for times of high demand. That’s why we have partnered with Unicool to have the option of a new material. This production of plastic resin will allow us to have a new manufacturing option for specific cases. In no case will it mean that we will stop manufacturing in metal (it is well known that we have an infrastructure in our factory where metal machinery is the main protagonist). We love working with metal! Likewise, releases in thermoplastic will be maintained.
How?
From now on, some miniatures may be produced in this material. For 2023, we only plan to produce the alternative versions of the Marut and the Hassassin Ayyar in plastic resin, included in the new ITS Special pack that will be released next April. In the online store, we will indicate which products are made of metal, thermoplastic, or plastic resin appropriately.

Äh nein. Jedes Mal wenn jemand diese Lüge wiederholt tötet Gott einen Chemiker.
Es ist PVC mit Additiven traurig das CB diesen Mist ins Sortiment aufnimmt. Hoffen wir mal das Ihnen das um die Ohren fliegt
Und jetzt gehen wir mal davon aus, dass Corvus Belli die Leute nicht belügen wollen, sondern fragen stattdessen, was sie vielleicht gemeint haben könnten. Es könnte z.B. sein, dass sie damit meinen, dass das Material Eigenschaften von PVC und Resin verbindet (und nicht, dass es eine Materialverbindung aus beiden ist).
Ich stimme deiner Skepsis gegenüber diesem Material übrigens durchaus zu, das hat bisher noch fast nie sinnvoll geklappt.
Man darf gespannt sein!
Würd bei solchen Umstellungen sehr gerne mal den internen Diskussionen lauschen.
Siocast haben die sich ja erstmal angeschafft und auch schon im Vertrieb. Damit geht weitaus mehr als etwa mit 3D Druckern aber kostet sehr viel (irgendwas zwischen 25k und 50k pro Gerät meine ich) und die sind abhängig von diesem einen Partner.
Dazu mögen die Käufer schlicht die weichen Figuren nicht so gern.
Aber irgendwas anderes wird da ja auch noch eine Rolle spielen? Schnelle Abnutzung der Formen? Aufwand nicht wert im Vergleich zum alten System?
Because Money.
sinocast ist in house. Ihre capa scheinen sie mit war crow aus zu lasten also schauen sie schon mal was sonst so geht und uni cool kann im pvc bereich durchaus eine Anerkennungswürdige Erfahrung vorweisen.
CB scheint einfach an dem Punkt angekommen zu sein wo sie mit eigenen Maschinen nicht mehr auskommen aber sie neue eigene noch nicht rechnen (vielleicht einfach auch kein Platz und Personal zur Verfügung steht).
Da sinocast halt ausserhalb von cb und archon kaum verbreitet ist ist pvc als zwischenlösung vor hips schon verständlich
trotzdem muss man als kunde das ja nicht mögen
Argh!! Siocast, nicht Sinocast
Wenn man bei Siocast auf der Homepage guckt, verwenden wohl mehrere Firmen die Produkte dieser Firma, darunter auch Warlord Games.
Außerdem bieten sie zwei Materialien an, einmal SIOres Basis und das neue SIOres HAND. Vielleicht verwendet DM jetzt bei Ausgangsmaterialien von Siocast!?
Das Unicool Plastic macht bisher einen super Eindruck. CB haben sich das Material bei Freecompany abgeschaut und sind bei der Spiel mit denen ins Gespräch gegangen.
Ich kann die Qualität von den Eldfall Chronicles Miniaturen bisher nur loben. Das Material ist leicht, robust und hat extrem gute Details. Für mich bisher mit das Beste, was ich in den Händen hielt.
Dem kann ich mich nur anschließen. Ich war auch schwer beeindruckt von den Eldfall Minis. Wenn CB sich das Material abschauen würde, würde ich das sehr begrüßen.
Eldfall Chronicles hat einige der besten Minis, die ich je aus einem „Nicht-Resin“ gesehen habe. Die sind einfach der Knaller und werden hier mittelfristig noch in einem Hobbykeller auftauchen. 🙂
Ich baue meine Eldfall Minis gerade. Die sind wirklich super.
Da ich kein Materialkunder bin, sage ich einfach nur: ich mag Metall!
Hab gestern mal wieder was von CB bekommen und die Wertigkeit macht einfach glücklich. Da gehört für mich das Gewicht des Metalls dazu und die robuste Verpackung und die Anzeichen von Qualitätskontrolle…
Am gleichen Tag kammen auch LotR Minis von GW. Die stehen zwar jetzt als erstes auf dem Maltisch, aber beim auspacken dachte ich nur, das sei irgendwie wenig für’s Geld. (Tatsächlich waren es 33 GW Minis für ~50€ vs. 3 CB Minis für 30€)
Will sagen; Ich mag Metall!
Bin aber auch offen für alles, hatte das Siocast immer noch nicht in der Hand.
Ich find das neue Material top, wenn die Minis allesamt auch so kommen. Ich bin leider kein Freund von Metall mehr.
