Huge thanks for the amazing feedback on last week’s first RR image. I will be taking these riders all the way to Kickstarter! I hope you can follow along and join in with your RR thoughts as ‘Project Warhorse’ takes shape.

I sure did not expect to wake up at 3am today and see the new GW RR minis. WOW! I thought they would be months away. As much as I like the new Attilans, I’ve always imagined RR inspired by Nineteenth Century lancers, or early Twentieth Century mounted infantry. Fitted out more like the Australian Light Horse, than medieval jousting knights.
This is my first go at posing a horse, I am conscious of contact with the base. Are tactical rocks the solution? I really want to get some balance and motion into the rider. I’m going for standing in the stirrups, leaning into the charge, left hand high and tight on the reins. Eyes and lance focussed on target.
I’ve been looking at the parts breakdown and customisation options. This draft is a very simple, stripped down version of the rider. I’m planning the arms, legs and horse to be universal. The rider’s torso, and head will be interchangeable to enable customisation. Please let me know your thoughts and what you would like to see going forward. Cheers, V.

Some stuff to do next:

  • More general refining and detailing, including bridle and horse tack.
  • I was planning to try a Roman style armour piece on the horse’s head.
  • Detail horse muscles, mane and tail.
  • Rework horse breastplate.
  • Wraps for horse’s legs?
  • Try adding rider’s camo cloak.
  • Make a torso with a WW1 style bandoleer.
  • Stick a pith helmet on this guy
