Warhammer Old World: Bären! & Lumineth Endless Spells
Kislev wird in Warhammer: The Old World Bärenkavallerie erhalten und die Endloszauber der Lumineth werden vorgestellt.
A few weeks ago, we saw an early look at one of the factions that’s in the works for the return of Warhammer’s Old World – the cold northern nation of Kislev. Today, we’re taking a look at one of the thematic aspects of that force: bears!
Kislev is a cold and hard country which forms a natural border between the Empire of Sigmar and the Chaos tainted-lands further north. Between the chill winters and constant threat of marauding enemies, the people of Kislev are hard and constantly ready for battle, and they use all the meagre resources of their country to their advantage… including the most abundant of their native animals. As an added bonus, they’re a bit fierce too.
Many heroes of Kislev tame great bears and ride them to war. Forming a bond with their mighty beasts is not easy, but for those who do, it is lifelong – indeed, legend says that when Tsar Boris died, his loyal bear guarded his corpse for a day and a night before disappearing into the snow. Some of you might actually remember this classic model of Boris riding his bear from years past…
We can’t wait to see the bear cavalry that will be coming to Warhammer: The Old World. They’re a long way from being models yet, but we’ve secured some stunning concept sketches of what you’ll be able to expect.
This is only the beginning. Even though this game is quite a ways off yet, there’s loads of cool stuff to see over the coming months, and we’ll keep bringing you these awesome nuggets of what you can expect as the project progresses. The Lumineth Realm-lords harness the innate power of the realms to summon their endless spells, each with a different purpose. With access to several Wizards, the Realm-lords call upon the power of the mountain to enhance their magical abilities, offer protection, and curse their foes.
Sanctum of Amyntok
Manifesting as a ritual circle, the life force of the realm pours forth from the ground to create a crackling shield. The rune form of Yngra can be seen, synonymous with ‘rescue’ – and ‘imprisonment’. Incoming harmful attacks and energies are converted into flashes and whip-cracks of light, lashing out at any foe foolish enough to come too close.
Two matching prism-like gems, each larger than an aelf, hover in the air in a slow orbit when summoned. They act as reservoirs of arcane power, each collecting aetheric energy and charging the other. A skilled Lumineth Realm-lords Wizard can draw on nearby Twinstones to enhance their own abilities.
Rune of Petrification
When summoned, stones assemble into a ponderous mystical rune on tendrils of swirling energy. A thing of dread even for the Lumineth, the Rune of Petrification cannot easily be dispelled once released, and its power is oppressive. Nearby enemies will begin turning to stone in a matter of moments, eventually becoming inert statues if they remain in its presence.
These endless spells represent a few of the ways in which the Realm-lords’ relationship to Hysh enhances their magical potency. When combined with the already-impressive abilities of their wizards, the synergistic effects are undeniably strong.
