Pre-order Next Week: Start Collecting! Sets, Boards and A Very Special Commissar…
Next week brings loads of new releases for you to get your teeth into, from Start Collecting! sets to new boards for Warhammer Underworlds as well as this year’s Black Library Celebration miniature…
Warhammer: Age of Sigmar
You guys like saving money, right? Well, we’ve got great news – two new Start Collecting! sets will be landing very soon. Both of these sets are a cracking way to start or expand an existing collection and focus on two incredibly popular armies released last year – the Maggotkin of Nurgleand the Idoneth Deepkin. Each set contains a Leader for your army, some infantry to fill out your Battleline slots, and some cavalry, giving you a balanced selection of units for your collection.
For Warhammer 40,000 fans, we’re very excited to announce this year’s Black Library Celebration miniature. Last year, we looked back at Black Library’s past and brought you Inquisitor Gregor Eisenhorn, one of the 41st Millennium’s most famous characters. Now, in 2019, we’re looking forward to one of its rising stars – Commissar Severina Raine.
Having starred in a number of digital shorts, Severina Raine was the perfect choice for this year’s celebration miniature, and her assembly guide also includes rules for using her in your Astra Militarum army.
Introducing Commissar Severina Raine
Attention, Guardsmen! In less than a week, Warhammer and Games Workshop stores worldwide will be playing host to the annual Black Library Celebration – and this year’s event has something for all fans of the Astra Militarum. Among the mountains of new books and audio dramas (The Buried Dagger! Angron: Slave of Nuceria! Our Martyred Lady!) is the debut novel from Rachel Harrison, and it’s one that any self-respecting trooper won’t want to miss.
Honourbound follows on from a series of short stories Rachel has written over the last year or so, and introduces Commissar Severina Raine and her soldiers to long-form fiction. As well as reading the novel you’ll be able to lead Severina Raine to victory on the tabletop with a glorious new resin Citadel miniature launching alongside the book. Even better, the model comes with characterful rules that reflect Raine’s armaments and command style.
We’ll delve into Raine’s background and rules in a moment, but first, we have an exclusive video where author Rachel Harrison and miniatures designer Mike Fores talk about bringing Severina Raine to life in fiction and in resin.
Severina Raine serves as Commissar for the 11th Antari Rifles, an Astra Militarum regiment assigned to the Bale Stars, where a sinister Chaos cult known as the Sighted threaten the Imperium’s rule. As the secrets of the Sighted come to light and illuminate the darkness of Raine’s troubled past, she must cling to the Commissar’s creed, and have faith that the Emperor will bring victory.
So how does she compare to a regular Commissar? Her carapace armour gives her a slightly better save, and her signature bolt pistol, Penitence, has a handy -1 AP – perfect for bringing the Emperor’s wrath to heretics and aliens alike.
As well as the typical Commissar abilities, Raine has a bespoke ability, Leading from the front, which reflects her gung-ho nature, and makes nearby Astra Militarum forces immune to Morale tests when Raine is within 1″ of enemy models. This makes her perfect for leading a force of elite troopers like Veterans and Tempestus Scions to get up-close with the enemy – just the way she fights in Rachel’s stories.
Raine’s datasheet comes in the box, but if you’re eager to start planning a force around her now, you can download it straight away. You can also use Severina Raine in Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team using a datasheet printed in the February issue of White Dwarf, which is on store shelves now.
Severina Raine will be available to order, as well as to pick up in your local Warhammer store, from next Saturday, alongside Honourbound and the rest of the Black Library Celebration releases. Join us throughout the week for previews of these, along with a look at great ways to get started with Black Library and a brand-new short story every day.
As any Warhammer Underworlds player worth their shadeglass knows, how you deploy is nearly as important as having a deadly deck. If you’re looking to surprise your foes and try some new setups, the latest board set is for you…
Inside the Forbidden Chambers Board Pack, you’ll find a double-sided gaming board with some unusual features. The first side allows you to set up three fighters adjacent to one another and is ideal for defensive setups and small warbands like Steelheart’s Champions. Meanwhile, the second side contains a group of three lethal hexes, making for a deadly deterrent to any enemies who’d risk coming into your terrain.
Check back throughout the coming week for more previews, and let us know what you’re looking forward to most on the Warhammer 40,000, Warhammer Age of Sigmar and Warhammer Underworlds Facebook pages.
