GW: Neue Brettspiele vorgestellt

Growing Your Games Night

Games Workshop Growing Your Games Night Boardgames 1

If you’re based in the USA, Canada or Germany, your next board-games night is about to get a dose of hammers and eagles (and no small amount of skulls). Three games for newer Warhammer fans have begun hitting shelves at selected retailers. Designed for those who might be unfamiliar with Warhammer, they’re a great way to introduce your friends to your favourite worlds.

Stormvault

Stormvault is a thrilling game of cooperative adventure in the Mortal Realms that pits you against the forces of Chaos. Choosing from one of a selection of Stormcast Eternals heroes, you’ll explore the Mortal Realms in an epic quest to open one of the long-lost Stormvaults. You might recognise the models used to represent these champions from Warhammer Underworlds!

The game expands upon the mystery of these arcane prisons, first examined in Forbidden Power, as you venture across the board armed with wits and your dice, discovering encounters and defeating Chaos champions in combat. It’s both a great standalone board game as well as the perfect on-ramp to the wider world of Warhammer Age of Sigmar – grab Storm Strike afterwards, and you’ll have the makings of a great little Stormcast Eternals army!

Combat Arena

Of course, cooperating with your friends is one thing – but what if you want to defeat them in glorious combat? We’ve got you covered there, too! Combat Arena is a new game of arena battles that pits you against your friends in furious bouts set in the depths of a space ship on its way to the Blackstone Fortress. Pick from a range of all-new models and duke it out in lightning-fast battles based on the extremely popular combat system pioneered in Gorechosen.*

This game is a great introduction to the 41st Millennium – and not just because of all the violence! With a colourful range of characters and lore in the rulebook for the uninitiated, it’s a brilliant way to bring your friends into the grim darkness of the far future. Don’t worry if you’re not in the USA, Canada or Germany and want the new models – they’ll be available in Blackstone Fortress: Escalation later this year.

Dreadfane

Last up, we’ve got Dreadfane – an entry-level version of Warhammer Underworlds that offers some key twists on the ultimate competitive miniatures game. You won’t just be trying to beat your enemies – the environment itself has a massive influence on your games, with escalating hazards in each round to deal with, from pools of acid to burning comets!

Games Workshop Growing Your Games Night Boardgames 6

This set marks the introduction of two new warbands – Ironsoul’s Condemnors and Lady Harrow’s Mournflight – in a special debut release. They will be available to the rest of the world a bit down the line, and in the meantime – to keep things fair – you will only be able to use them in Grand Clashes if Dreadfane is available in that country, so be sure to check the event pack. They’ll be usable in any of your friendly games and might even be legal in your local clash – if in doubt, check with your local organiser.

The set offers some great challenges for existing warbands, too – while it doesn’t contain any Universal cards, it’s compatible with pretty much anything from the main game. So, if you’re wondering just how Mollog’s Mob might fare at smashing skulls while dodging crystal beams, or fancy a twist when playing against your regular opponent, you’ll find hours of fun in the set. With Beastgrave just around the corner, there’s never been a better time to be a Warhammer Underworlds fan!

Find Stormvault, Combat Arena and Dreadfane in Barnes & Noble stores right now, and keep an eye out for them in other stores across the USA, Canada and Germany very soon.

*Gorechosen was a crackin’ little boxed game from a few years ago that was much-loved by folk who enjoy frenetic tabletop duels.

  • Hm.
