Warlord Luftwaffe Field Division 88mm Flak 37 01 Warlord Luftwaffe Field Division 88mm Flak 37 02 Warlord Luftwaffe Field Division 88mm Flak 37 03 Warlord Luftwaffe Field Division 88mm Flak 37 04

Luftwaffe Field Division 88mm Flak 37 – 25,00 GBP

Originally developed as an anti-aircraft weapon, the Flak 37 8.8cm (or Eighty-eight as it became known by Allied troops) had a high muzzle velocity to allow it to reach the higher ranges modern bombers were capable of at the time. This would make it an exceptionally deadly anti-tank weapon as many Allied tank crews would learn to their peril. The 88 could also be deployed as a conventional artillery piece – as one infantryman noted, the 88 was ‚anti-everything’…

Capable of firing in extremis whilst still attached to its wheeled carriages (although with limited traverse or elevation), the 88 could be fully deployed onto its cruciform firing platform and ready to fire in around two and a half minutes.

Many 88s were fitted with a large gunshield although there were many examples of this being dispensed with. Being such a large and heavy weapon it could only be towed by larger prime movers such as the Sd.Kfz 7 halftrack.

The 88 saw service during the Spanish Civil War as well as on all fronts in which the Germans fought during WWII. Capable of penetrating armour plate up to 108mm thick at ranges of up to 1,100 yards, the 88’s fearsome reputation grew immensely during its service in the Western Desert where it was one of the very few weapons capable of dealing with the British Matilda II infantry tanks. A similar scenario unfolded on the Eastern Front as the 88 was among the rare weapons able to tackle the new Soviet heavy KV tanks.

The Flak 37 was the final production iteration of the 88, almost identical to the Flak 36 bar the updated instruments allowing for a greater level of autonomy in fire control.

This Flak 37 kit is supplied with 8.8cm shells and shell cases and can be built to both traverse and elevate – neither enemy armour nor aircraft will be safe!

HQ

The middle ranks of officers were almost invariably drawn from the upper-middle classes: educated in the public schools, instilled with the values of empire, and imbued with a sense of confidence, duty and resolve that is difficult to conceive of today. An officer unit consists of the man himself and can include up to two other men acting as his immediate attendants.

FOO

Forward observers are liaison officers responsible for coordinating the attack of heavy artillery batteries from behind the lines or aircraft strikes.

Medium Machine Gun Team

A .303 Vickers water-cooled machine gun offered fire support to infantry units. This was another weapon of World War I vintage that soldiered on through World War II and beyond, proving extremely effective at laying down continuous fire over a long range. A typical team consisted of a lance corporal gunner, a loader and an ammunition bearer.

Medium Mortar Team

The 3-inch mortar was used to provide support from up to 3,000 yards dependent upon the projectile used. The 3-inch mortar was operated by a crew of 3.

Warlord Monty General Montgomery 01 Warlord Monty General Montgomery 02

Monty – General Montgomery – 2,50 GBP

General Montgomery saw action in the First World War as a junior officer of the Royal Warwickshire Regiment. During the First Battle of Ypres he was shot through the right lung by a sniper, though he would later return to the Western Front to take part in the Battle of Arras and the Battle of Passchendaele.

World War II saw him command the British Eighth Army in the Western Desert from 1942 and on to the Allied invasion of Sicily and the Allied invasion of Italy.

Monty was the General chosen to command of all Allied ground forces during Operation Overlord, from the initial landings until after the Battle of Normandy. Eventually going on to command of the 21st Army Group for the rest of the campaign in North West Europe.

His reputation damaged by the failed airborne attempt to bridge the Rhine at Arnhem in Holland, however, was followed successfully with a subsequent Allied Rhine crossing. Montgomery, when German armoured forces attacked American lines in the Battle of the Bulge, was given command of the US First Army and the US Ninth Army, stopping the German advance and sending them into reverse.

Monty’s final act was, on 4 May 1945, to take the German surrender at Lüneburg Heath in Northern Germany.
