The Batmobile

What would a dark knight be without an appropriately dark steed? Since the beginning, or close to it, Batman possessed a vehicle which allowed him to quickly navigate the winding streets of Gotham. These vehicles have taken many forms over the years, from barely modified sports cars to unstoppable tank-like juggernauts.

But speed and tenacity aren’t the Batmobile’s only strengths; it also connects to the Batcave’s extensive computer network which provides all the appropriate communication and reconnaissance tools. Its weapon capabilities range depending on the model, but some carry rubber bullets, machine guns or even flamethrowers. And, of course, Batman keeps all this hardware protected with anti-theft systems, allowing the vehicle to self-destruct if compromised by his enemies.

The boardgame „Batman: Gotham City Chronicles“ will hit Kickstarter on February 27th

Dead End

Gotham City is both inspired by New York and San Francisco. It is a city owned by rich families but several neighborhoods are run down, waiting for urban renovation. In the shadow of tall buildings lie dark alleys, dead ends … This contrast explains why crime rate is so high and why the police seem helpless. And why this city needs Batman.

But the streets of Gotham are also directly responsible for the very existence of Batman. It’s the same Gothamite contrast that led the wealthy Wayne family to a movie theater one night, near a bad neighborhood. It was in one of these alleys, later renamed Crime Alley, that young Bruce’s parents were murdered, before his eyes.

Crime Alley has another more extraordinary feature. In Detective Comics # 500, the mystic hero Phantom Stranger summons Batman to this alley and explains that the events that happened there (the Wayne murder) are reflected through the Multiverse (the sum of multiple DC universes) and that with each generation, a Wayne couple is murdered on a new parallel Earth. The Alley of Crime is, therefore, a portal between these worlds. In 2003, Planetary / Batman: Night On Earth further explores this idea and explains that all the incarnations of Batman can be met in that alley.“
