Vidcaster: Ash Barker braucht unsere Hilfe!
Welllpp. This sucks.
Like a good horse, a good camera is only truly appreciated when it’s gone.
Back in 2015 I purchased this Canon XA10 as part of the IndieGoGo campaign that started this whole Guerrilla Miniature Games endeavour. Since then it has shot thousands of hours of video over the course of over five hundred days of shooting. I really can’t complain about the wonderful job it has done.
But like all mechanical devices, eventually components begin to break down. I first noticed the issue when viewers mentioned that there were some clips beginning and ending abruptly in videos, as though editing were choppy. As I do a lot of my editing in-camera I knew this shouldn’t be the case. Over the past few weeks it has become worse and worse and now there can often be as much as a 5 second delay as the camera struggles to begin recording. After posting this on Canon’s website over the weekend and using the chat to talk to the technician he suspects there’s an imminent hardware failure coming up for it.
So; this was something I really hoped I’d be able to put off for another year and especially not have happen right before tax time (when money is completely tight), but here I am about to be without a quality camera to shoot on. I can switch to a family camcorder style camera to shoot on in an absolute emergency, but it has limitations and EVERYONE will notice the difference. So, I’m reaching out to you folks in the hope we can come together and all pitch in to put together a solution before this gets critical. I’m going to put together a GoFundMe for the cost of another XA10 plus the Duties/Handling service B&H provides (which insures the camera gets to me without issue and that duties are paid up front).
With a second Camera I can send this one off to be repaired (which will probably take 2-3 months knowing how these services work) without any creative interruptions.
I’m going to throw myself that same $2500 in debt regardless, and this sucks because in the summer I’m planning to talk to you guys about the Studio renovation, but here we are. Anything helps.
Also, it looks like GFM doesn’t take Paypal, so if you wanted to use that there’s my tip jar on my YT channel. https://www.paypal.me/GMGAshBarker
Thanks for reading!
Ash ist ja nicht ganz unbeliebt, daher kam auch recht schnell einiges zusammen, und in diesem Update bedankt er sich dafür:
You guys constantly amaze me. Thank you so much. We’re close enough that I’m going to put the order in for a replacement camera hoping it makes it through and so if this camera Bricks-out I’m not just stuck unable to record content
Choosing not to hide my content behind a paywall and do transparent, public funding for this endeavor will always mean big expenditures like this are going to be an issue. Patreon provides the means to upkeep the studio and make sure my kids eat, but it was and never will make me rich or allow me to sock away large sums for crisis points like this. That you lot want this to continue really means a lot.
